Boring game,but congratulation to Spain!!!!

Agreed. The only interesting part was the Netherlands self destructing and getting themselves so many yellows and one red. Heh, can anyone say "Flying kick"?

It's tough as an American to get into a sport when taking a dive is not only expected, but rewarded.  The one dutch forward actually wanted to keep playing and made a go at splitting two defenders.  He didn't take a dive late in the game, and actually hurt his team because he didn't fall and make an arse of himself.  I can't stand it.

Isn't every soccer game boring? I find it so hard to watch even when the US was wining games that were so called"exciting".

Can't wait for the NFL to start!

I grew up with soccer, my Ex father in law even coached and played in Austria in a pro league back in the day. So soccer was on TV constantly when I was a teen and into my early 30's.  Both his kids were in soccer in school and when I met her she was playing soccer. So really I did grow up with it. Chicago even had a soccer team that once was actually pretty popular, now not so much. Actually I think girls soccer is big(all my girls play or played) in the US and I even read that many girls come here to the US to play because there is more money involved(not sure how true that is).

I think the rest of the world has forgotten that there is cable and we have had access to and been watching all sorts of games since the early 80's. Of course I played soccer as a child as my kids do now, still football is NFL football to me.

I would rather watch Australian rules football or any rugby before soccer.

This last world cup has left a bad taste in my mouth. It seems the refs make calls based on their political views as much as actual penalties, at least this tournament. And it had nothing to do with the US, many other teams got screwed over from very strange calls. I only wish Netherlands (or is Dutch more appropriate) won.  Smiley

And I will never understand why the refs do not have to explain their calls, that probably is one of the biggest factors why it will never get big in the US, the refereeing is totally whack.

Nick, I agree with you.  this world cup was a little shaky.I wanted the Deutch to win,but after watching the final,i wish that Uruguay was in the final.
I tought the game for 3rd place was pretty good.(germany/uruguay).

This is kind of weird, but watching Uruguay play,i was amazed by Diego Floran.Fantastic player. And i was thinking that he should get some kind of award for the way he has been scoring for his team.I just learn that he did get the golden ball award.         Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

To be honest I've never liked Football either for all those reasons + the yellow card being a slap on the wrist and the red being overboard and then the refs... My point is I prefer rugby (yay for Tri nations) so give that a watch, however when a world cup comes to your country it is really, really tough to not watch or be interested at all.

This last world cup has left a bad taste in my mouth. It seems the refs make calls based on their political views as much as actual penalties, at least this tournament. As much as I would have liked the Netherlands to win I am glad Spain won. See from what I know Spain has been divided by a rebel group who is being supported by France because they want to secede and they are now causing all kinds of **** in their country. I know how much a sports game can unite a country and how good it can do.  I know this country is better off because of hosting the world cup as I can tell it did unite the people, even if it means we are now going to go bankrupt.

*Edit

Here is the flying kick I was talking about:

Foul Nigel de Jong at Xabi Alonso [Final Netherlands-Spain]

Don't ask me how that wasn't a red card. I love one of the comments that says: This is Sparta!!!
