Title: Announcing Festool Connect 2018: Las Vegas on October 27
Post by: Festool USA on August 08, 2018, 09:19 AM
You’ve been asking, and we’re finally ready to announce …

[attachimg=2]
Festool Connect 2018
Las Vegas, Nevada
Saturday, October 27

Why Las Vegas? First off, why not? It’s Vegas!

More importantly, it’s important that we see our friends all over the US and Canada. All of our previous Connect events have been on the eastern half of the country, and we want to show some love to our West Coast friends!

We’ll be announcing more specifics about the day’s event shortly — including some special guests that we’ll be bringing along.

As always, Festool Connect is a free event, but we request that you register in advance. This helps us plan for food, parking, swag, etc.

Register for free at festoolconnect.com (https://www.festoolusa.com/company/festool-connect).

Where is a good place to stay?

There's so few hotels in the Vegas area.... (sorry, could not help myself). I would say wait until they announce the location, then find a hotel nearby. Festool's training center is in Henderson, but certainly that space will not allow for such an event. I have stayed at a nearby hotel that Festool suggests when they offer end user training classes, can't remember the name of the hotel, but honestly my last stay kind of sucked, so I would not recommend it personally...

@Don T

There are a lot of goodplaces to stay. If you take a end user class there they recommend sunset station (think thats the name). Rio and Texas have great buffets so you might want to look into them.

Ill be staying with my compadre (BIL) as I always do.

He'll be visiting this weekend Ill let him know Im coming.

Remember my burger babe Avitar. She's at the Heart Attack Grill and plenty like , its a fun place w Huge Burgers and fries its awesome.

There is also a Hofbrauhaus there.

https://www.hofbrauhauslasvegas.com

As you can tell I can tell you where to eat.

But as far Hotels, Id say the grab closest to where the FT Connect is.

I know it seems to be a silly question but I was looking for suggestions from people that have done a class there. I thought waiting to see if Festool would make recommendations also.

This is my first connect also.  I might try to get out to Anderson Plywood since In Touch Tools closed.  Being retired is great, I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary a few months ago.  Loving every minute.

I read on Instagram that the venue for the event will be at The Enclave.  That is a little east of the airport.  Just mentioning this so that those who are looking for hotels close by can use this info for hotels etc.

Those burgers are huge. The quadruple bypass is something like 12000 calories. They cook their food the old way in pure lard (like when I was a kid)

Yea I know but once in a while wont be bad

Tom Silva and Kevin O'Connor from This Old House will be there. Also, although he won't be there in an official capacity that we can really promote, Mike Holmes Jr. will be there as well.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! The first 500 pre-registered attendees will receive a 3.5 m sleeved hose (500276).

Be sure to register at festoolconnect.com.

@Tyler how will we know if we are one of the lucky ones?

We've had a couple of questions about this. So it's based on being among the first 500 to show up that day ... but you have to have pre-registered. To be honest, I'd be surprised if we have more than 500 pre-registered attendees. Although I definitely can't guarantee anything, if you pre-register and attend you have a pretty good likelihood of getting the hose.

Oddly enough I happen to be in town for exactly that weekend for a professional trade conference of my dayjob so I registered just in case I can skip some sessions of my show to visit Connect.

What is the suggested method of taxi transport around LV? Uber? Something else? It's easy enough to get a cab at the hotel, but getting the return ride was horrible last time I was in LV in 2006, but that predated all cab apps and Uber so wondering how is it now?

I do have data roaming available, though I won't be using it much as it costs an arm and a leg in the US.
Title: Re: Announcing Festool Connect 2018: Las Vegas on October 27
Post by: jobsworth on September 20, 2018, 11:42 AM
You will not have a problem getting around LV.
There are all sorts of different methods of transportation.
Uber is popular here in the States, taxis are everywhere in Vagas and both are affordable to use.
Some of the Hotels offer free service drop ya off and pick ya up.

The hardest part youll have is picking a good place to eat.
There are way to many of them. I like the Heart Attack grill biggest burgers you admost have ever seen. Cooked the old fashion way in lard, same with their fries. Plus the waitresses dress like nurses.if you remember my burger babe, she is a waitress there.

The hotels like the Rio and Texas have very good buffets.

Even Chef Ramsey has some resteraunts there. i think a he has 2 or 3 in Ceasars Palace alone.

One thing about Vegas its 24/7 anything you want anytime you want.

Hope this helps

@jobsworth  are you saying that even Uber is expensive in LV; I was thinking of using it when I am there for the connect. What about Lyft?
Title: Re: Announcing Festool Connect 2018: Las Vegas on October 27
Post by: jobsworth on September 20, 2018, 12:57 PM
@vkumar

I see where you thought I said it was expensive.

My Bad I corrected the grammer and said they (transportation) is affordable.

Thanks for letting me know so I could correct what i wrote.

Remember its a town that is built on tourist and they cater to the tourist.

Also I did say that maybe the Hotel may offer free shuttle service, take and pick up. Depends on the Hotel.

Especially if you have someone else share the cost. Maybe there are other FOGGERs staying at the same Hotel you are.

Personally Im driving there and staying at my BILs in N. Vegas.

Now if your looking for a place to eat, I already mentioned a couple, there is also a Official Hofbrau Haus there that sells good beer and German food and HB Haus LV liter mugs. Like the ones they sell at the Original HB Haus in Munich.

I'm staying at Caesar's Palace for the 6 days I'm there so mostly I'll probably eat something along the strip and we have conference gala dinners and sponsor food available so lets see if I can squeeze a heart attack into my schedule  [cool]

Last time I never really left the Strip, but what else is in Vegas to see?

I've done the hotels with roller coasters & Stratosphere Tower amusements last time and wondered through all the casinos on the Strip and seen the Pirate Show and the Dancing Water Show, etc.

I'm thinking of getting tickets to a Cirque du Soleil show or two if they are still running (haven't checked yet) and was wondering is there anything worth seeing Downtown outside of your suggested burger join?

Where would one go for "normal" clothes shopping on a budget in Vegas? Is there a Macy's or similar there? On the strip the services seemed to cater to jackpot winners and I'm not on such a budget  [sad] and no supermarkets in sight.

They have a outlet mall there you’ll have a good time shopping there. No sure on the directions to get them but they are not that far off the strip, not walking distance but a nice selection of different clothes manufacturers

A quick answer to a few questions about Las Vegas
1. Uber or lyft are going to be cheaper than the taxi
2.  There are fantastic restaurants all over on and off strip depending on your budget of course
3.  If wanting to see a cirque type show, I think la reve at Wynn is the best one
4. Rarely will you beat the casino so save some of your money to buys tools!

I want to echos Don's sentiment.  A big thank you to the Festool organizers and presenters.  Really enjoyed all the demos.  Great opportunity to reconnect with Sedge and Steve Bace the two trainers.

Great presentation by Tom Silva and Kevin OConnor about the history of This Old House and current projects and their support of keeping the technical trades alive. Got to shake hands with Tom.

And I specially have to be thankful for winning the big raffle, the Shaper Origin .  I lost Sam's business card . So if Sam or anyone else associated with Shaper please pm me. @TylerC  if you can help.

I sent you Sam's email via PM.  We were standing next to each other when getting raffle tickets and missed that Shaper by 3 numbers ... my buddy by one .. oh well.  Would have saved me 2,500 bucks.  Sam cut me out a template I use to route slots in the MFT table.  I checked it when I got home and it was spot on.  I can use a 30mm guide bushing and 20mm bit to route a 20mm slot, or use a pattern bit to make a 30mm slot.  Works great for other clamps that don't fit into dog holes.  Anyhow .. I'm ordering the Shaper .. unless you want to give me yours?

Thank you to @TylerC  and everyone else at Festool for a great time!  It was fun and informative.  It is also great to see the evolutions of the event and all the new faces.  I wish that I had gotten a chance to meet more of the Foggers that were there.  Next year perhaps!

Thank you to everyone who came to Vegas! We had an absolute BLAST! It humbles us that people were willing to make the journey to hang out with us. We're already starting discussions about next year's event!

Absolutely Unscientific, Non-Binding, Unsolicited Survey: What city should Festool Connect 2019 take place in? (Don't name the city you live it!)

I wish I had been able to make it!

The most obvious choice for next year is the Nation's Capital!

The venue location should be based on convenience of airports.  Las Vegas , Chicago, Atlanta have major hub airports.
Of these Las Vegas has clearly the most to offer in terms of post show activities. Plus it is also very well connected to every where with fairly inexpensive flights with airlines such as Southwest that offer 2 free checked bags (came in very useful last weekend for hauling my raffle prize  [big grin])

If they give away Shapers to every attendee, I'm booking my flight to Vegas now!

I agree that it should be a venue that has other things to offer and easy access.  I would add that it would be nice if you chose a populated area which offers a chance for those that may not want to book a flight.  If a SO is involved in "approving" such a trip, it also has to offer something for them.   [wink]

I'll put my vote in for Dallas, TX.  I think it is easily drive able and the airport is a huge hub for flights.

I realize this is a pretty old thread but I’m wondering if anyone has heard or knows if a 2019 event has been planned? I haven’t found anything on the interwebs so far.

Festool has not made an announcement yet about a Festool Connect Event 2019 yet.  The trainers and much staff are out on the road with the Roadshow doing events tailored towards educational facilities right now.  Maybe we will hear something in the future.
