I purchased both a CT26 and a midi this last summer.  The CT26 was already broken when I opened the box.  It was of course replaced by the vendor.  But still.  Decades of experience in plastics manufacturing, and we have to put up with this?   It's just a little weird some of the idiosyncrasies we accept in pursuit of superior tools.

I recently had to repair the top of my oldest 26 where the work center rests on it. I lazily used it to push myself from my knees after changing the bag and it cracked about 8".  I used pl8 adhesive and filled the hollow channel completely.  It now feels solid as a polyurethane rock.

My 3yo midi is missing bits and has a cracked corner. Treated no different to a cheap vac which is in pristine condition.
It's seems to happen in the cold more.

My CT26 is getting on a bit now and is all in one piece.  The only problem I have with that is the old style systainer catches and I really wish Festool would redesign the top with a T-Loc catch.

My CT Mini did suffer a small bit breaking off the corner of the hose guide on the "garage", but I replaced the whole top with the new T-Loc style, since when it has survived unscathed.

Cheers

That's where my midi broke first and I have the older systainer latches style. Was it hard to change @scholar ?

I have a CT36 with an intact hose garage that came that way.  It is in a home shop, so doesn't get tradesman use, but it has survived the granddaughters, who clean my shop once a month or so for spending money.

For all of that, I actually do use the garage quite a bit when I'm in the shop.  I use it to stage whatever tool I'm using at the moment that requires dust collection.  Usually a systainer for the tool I'm using with the CT and another for consumables (dominos or sandpaper).

My old CT 33 still has its hose garage intact; the newer (and more used) CT 36 has a broken garage. Everyone wants to sell me a garage for the CT 33, but the design is different. I can't find a part number for the hose garage for the CT 36. I recall the garage was an accessory for the 33 but standard on the 36.
Does anyone have a US source and part number for the hose garage replacement for the CT 36?

Looks like 496237 on the EKAT. Contact a dealer to order.

You can find parts diagrams on the Festool Spare Parts selection on the Festool Websites drop down in the top bar.

My CT36 is still in great shape after 6+ years but it rarely gets pulled out from under the outfeed table of my tablesaw.

SRSemenza, thanks for checking on that part number 496237. Yes, EKAT does show that as the correct part for the CT 36. I was going by the images I see online for that part, which is the picture for the older hose garage as far as I can tell. I will check with the local dealer, thanks. Or maybe I won't and will wait until Festool makes an unbreakable hose garage.  [wink]

I just purchase a used CT 26E vacuum and the hose garage plastics have broken without any provocation at all.  First thing, it snapped of in my hand when I attempted to roll it by grabbing the plastic edge.  The plastic looks like it is made of Baklite plastic and is thin and brittle.  This should have been covered by a product notice and recall by Festool.

When ordering a new garage, the replacement is described as such: Replacement T-LOC hose garage for Festool CT 26, CT 36 and CT 48 dust extractors. New improved 2018 model with improved reinforcement from two main points – new structural design and an upgraded ABS thermoplastic.

For a tool that cost over $700.00, Festools have lost some the shine for me.  Otherwise, the extractor works very well

I have the CT26 still intact but I don't move it around a lot. How does the cracking happen? Is it from moving around from job site to job site or when you store and remove the hose? When I first got it unit I thought that it seemed a little tight to remove the hose from the garage.

My several-year-old CT26 sits on a cart in the garage and is only moved when I empty the bag.  Mine garage broke by grasping the lip front lip of it and pulling the vacuum towards me so I could access the latches and remove the bag.  It was a simple pull, nothing out of the ordinary (IMO).  The plastic got brittle over time and all it took was a simple pressure on that particular spot.

My several-year-old Midi garage busted after tumbling down 2 carpeted steps.  This vacuum was dragged all over the place throughout the house.  Again, the plastic became brittle over time and it didn't take much for it to bust.

I bought a new garage for the Midi, but it didn't fit.  Festool sent me an updated version along with another part to ensure it fit.  This part feels much more robust.  I'm very thankful for the level of service I received from Festool.

My second hose garage has died. It bit me in the finger when it went.

That will not happen again.

I really like my festool vac, I think the new hoses are brillliant, as is the new remote, but the hose garage...

The hose garage on my CTL-26 is also broken now, where it connects to the vac and the front right corner.

SRSemenza, thanks for checking on that part number 496237. Yes, EKAT does show that as the correct part for the CT 36. Part 204040 is the newer one for T-locs it seems. But that makes it harder to stack classic Systainer on it as you would need to apply four latches instead of two.

Next time I am making Epoxy I'll try to glue up the old garage with glassfibre.

I noticed that the garage that is part of my CT36 AC is universal. Too bad there isn't a similar one for the older vacs.
