RAS 115 converter from oval to round hose?
« on: May 09, 2009, 11:53 AM »
I have a new RAS 115 and a CT 22.   :-\  Much to my surprise, when I went to connect the two, a converter from the RAS tool to the round hose of the CT 22 did not come with either machine.  Furthermore, there is no such part in the 08/09 Festool catalogue while the picture of the RAS 115 shows a converter connected to the tool?

Someone must know where to get this connector. (?)  Your help would be appreciated.

There is no connector/adapter - you connect the hose directly to the machine by simply squeezing the rubber end of the 27mm hose into an oval shape and then pushing it into position! See the following enlargement of a photo on the Festool USA website:

The manual says:

For dust extraction, the suction hose (27 mm dia.)
of a Festool dust extractor should be inserted into
the connection socket (6.3) at the end of the rotary
sander housing.

See also page 7 of Matthew's review of the machine.

Thanks for the reply.  I wondered about this solution.  I couldn't understand what purpose the brass peice inside the connector played if the connector was only going to rubber.

In addition, I bought a 7m antistatic D36 hose to use with the machine.  Does this solution mean that I need to run a D27 hose to my D36 hose?  That seems to defeat the purpose of the D36.  Again, do I need to buy an anti-static D27 hose in order to maintain the anti-static feature?

Given all of the "un-included" or "optional" items that Festool sells to make their systems work together, someone should create the kind of purchasing choice map that they used to do when pc's came out, e.g., if you want a game computer, choose this cabinet with this power supply, choose this processor / speed and memory or above, choose this hard drive or above, choose this speed  etc.

Paul, the D36 hose won't fit any of the Festool sanders, the D27 is the optimal hose for Festool sanders. Your CT22 should have come with the D27 antistatic hose.

This forum is the best place for purchasing advice, almost any question can be answered here within a few hours. Of course a good Festool dealer can help guide you through the process too.

hi, i hope i can clear this up for you....

you can use the 36mm hose, the photo above shows the rubber adaptor, that plugs into the festool tool, then the 36mm hose will fit over the adaptor, not into it.
i use the 36mm hose with all my festool gear, saws, routers, belt and orbital sanders.
it is bit too bulky for the sanders, but it does work ok.

i cant justify spending so much money for the 27mm hose now. just to clarify, when i purchased my ct-22, i swapped the 27mm hose for the bigger 36mm hose, only cost me an extra AU$30.
once i get my next decent contract, hopefully very soon, i will certainly rush out and buy the 27mm hose.

good luck, justin.
