Interesting. It’s not on the website. I might be interested if I can get the wife to let me out for a couple days. Hard right now with a 2 year old and 3 month old. I was looking at his cabinet course but won’t be able to make a May class.

Thanks. Didn’t think about going to the festool site. I think I would prefer his normal cabinet building class over the festool one. Hopefully he’ll set up another one later this year so I can go.

I’ll have to talk to the wife about the door class. Always fun to learn new things and approaches.

Ive taken about 4 of these classes. the cabinet class twice. Once with Greg once with Steve bace in LV. Both are good, both have different approaches to the same thing. All these classes are good.
I highly recommend the essentials class. It may seem like a intro but it isn't .  Athey go through  most of the core tools very thoroughly and do all sorts of things with them.  Id like to take another one. Maybe from Greg. the last essentials class I took was from Steve about 5 years ago.

Each instructor learns from the students in the classes. I showed the cab class a technique for cutting thin strips and jointing with the TS55 and Greg told me he'd never seen that before.

So you can take the same class every couple of years and learn something new.

Would you mind sharing that technique, sounds awesome.

Simple, you have to have a MFT. Set up the guide rail to where it’s square. Then place the angle stop  ( protractor) that comes with the with fence at the end of the MFT facing the guide rail. Make sure it’s set up parallel to the guide rail. Place the stock under the guide rail. Run the fence on the angle stop up to the guide rail to the thickness of the thin strip you want and lock it down and make your cut.

@ jobsworth, I think I understand what you are saying, but could you please post a picture for dummies like me [sad], so I can verify what I thought is actually what you are saying. Thank you.

Sounds like jobsworth’s idea requires two fences; one to square to the rail in the usual location and another outboard and “parallel”?

Festool used to sell a “longitudinal stop” for the MFT. It attached to the frame to the right of the rail and a steel arm could be moved towards the rail and set to fix the distance from the rail that the stock could be slid. Sorry, this isn’t so clear either.

In both cases (I think) you’re keeping the off-cut piece and it’s best to have a wide piece of stock to start with to keep the guide rail level. It the stock is narrow itself then you need to stick several pieces under the rail to support it.
