Dovetails with the OF 1010 Router: Which guide bushing?
« on: January 27, 2007, 06:41 PM »
Just got back from a hardware store where the lure of a cheap dovetail jig caught me. The manual says I need a 7/16" OD guide bushing.

In looking through the Festool manual, I'm thinking that in Festool parlance this means a copying ring. Is this correct? And if so, does that mean I need the one with the 11mm diameter, which appears to be KR D 13.8/OF 1010, item number 484 176?

Or does this involve the Guide Bushing Adaptor (which the catalog doesn't have a picture of) and some other part?

Oh for a decent dealer near us. We've got one that allegedly carries parts of the line, although they stock nothing and want to hit me with a special order charge for every little part we want to order, and the one we've bought our stuff to is near my sweety's family, but that's four hours away.

Yes, and no.  You do need something like a copy ring, but you need one with a 7/16" OD.  Close probably won't be good enough in the case of a dovetail jig.  Most other brand routers use guide bushings made to fit into a 1.5" hole in the router base.  There are many mfrs of guide bushings in US sizes available from just about any woodworking store or home center.  The OF1400 has a std guide bushing adapter available (mine was included), not sure about the 1010.

Contact Bob Marino about the Porter Cable adapter for the 1010. It is made to allow you to use PC type bushings.
