Festool Multi Jetstream
« on: July 28, 2011, 12:12 AM »
Picked up a ETS 150/3 on CL and was planning on stocking up on sandpaper until I noticed there was 2 kinds of hole patterns.  One for the older Jetstream (mine) and the newer  Multi Jetstream.  Is the new  Multi Jetstream worth the upgrade?  Does the new pad just snap right on to older models of the sander?

No difference in pad mounts.  Just the holes.  Haven't done any testing myself, but it's supposed to evacuate sanding dust from the surface better by a very small percentage.

I have a multi get stream pad on one 6" sander and the old pad on another.  I can't really tell any difference, it's certainly not dramatic in my shop.  At this point I have 25-50 discs in like 12 grits of the old discs and only 3 grits of the new so I'll be living in a mixed world for a long long time.

Both papers work on either pad.  The new design runs cooler and aids in dust extraction helping the pads and paper last longer and less dust on your work piece.  Here is a link from Festool along with a quick video from You Tube that shows the temperature difference.  Since the pads eventually wear out I would probably use the old one up and change it out when the time comes.
