Video Demonstration of Building a Keyboard Tray with Sliding Dovetails

Hi everyone,

Here is my entry into the contest -- it is a video build of me making a keyboard tray for a desk that I completed last summer.  While a fairly simple and straight-forward project, I did try a couple of new techniques using the OF1010 router and edging plate to create a sliding dovetail to join the front edge piece to the keyboard tray.  I also used this to trim the edge banding flush with the tray.  I used quite a few of my Festool tools -- I was kind of surprised that I utilized so many for such a simple project.  

Here is the list of stuff used in the build:

TS75 saw with 1900mm guide rail
MFT/3
MFT Kapex
Kapex
OF1010 Router with edging plate, angle arm and chip deflector; Festool 10mm spiral bit and 4mm round-over bit (I used a Leigh Dovetail bit as I do not own a Festool DT bit)
Quick clamps, clamping elements, screw clamps
Rotex 150
DTS400

While not in the video, I will be using my T15 drill to install the tray to the desk as well as a few bits and pieces from the Centrotec Installers set.

Here is the video of the build -- it came in just (and I mean just) under 10 minutes to adhere to the entry rules...it is tough editing down all the video I shot to get it to where it is at...please go easy on me with the comments  .  Still need to apply the finish and install it, hopefully in the next few days.

I have been wanting to try this for awhile and took the opportunity on this short project to give it a go.   I was surprised how easy it was to set everything up. I edited the the sections of test fitting, but it went pretty quickly...in fact my first attempt at the sliding dovetail was nearly perfect but I tried to getting seven closer only to mess the setting up!  Lesson learned in the micro-adjust really is a micro-adjust and a little turn goes a long way!

The joint fit really tight but it did not show up well in the video.  I will take some pics after the finish is applied and post if anyone wants to see them as I think that will make it standout.

Nice video especially on the 1010 accessories.  I don't have a 1010, but like that chip-catcher the way it installs vs the 1400 version.  Nice birds' eye, too

I've heard the SysLite can be useful for video so I became tempted to get a pair of them.  I'm still struggling with lighting -groan- it's difficult to monkey with settings while you're supposed to be in front of the camera.  I've been told daylight works well, but that doesn't work with my nocturnal self.

I had a hard time seeing what was going on.  I think that it would have been nice if you had closeup lens on your camera so I could see the details of the OF 1010 router set up.

Thanks for the feedback.  Did you have any specific questions that I could help answer or show you?  I shot a lot of video but had to edit it down to the 10 minutes so it is possible I have a different shot of something or I would be happy to help answer any questions.
