Bessey Revo vs Revo Jr Parallel Clamps?
« on: June 25, 2019, 09:26 AM »
I'd purchased 8 each of Bessey Revo Jr 12", 18", 24" and 36" several years ago.  This weekend I added 8 Bessey Revo 50" clamps to the collection.  I really like the rubber style handle which is far easier to tighten than the wood handle on the Jr.  In addition, the Revo handles now have allen screw in the handle if you really need to tighten to the max.  The one thing I did not like is the head is wider but am not certain if all Revo's are this way or it's just the nature of the bigger 50" clamps.

That said, I see the regular Revo at HD for less than the Revo Jr and am wondering if it's worth exchanging the few I didn't use and possibly selling for slight loss the Jr and buying the regular Revo.  What are your experiences with these and is there anybody who prefers the Jr over the regular Revo?

The heads are the same size on all the lengths.

For some applications I prefer the jr’s as they are lighter. However, I have found that it is difficult to find any of the jr’s that slide easily on the bar. I have returned 3 of the packages from tickler that have the 3 different lengths. I’ve even tried a couple singles in the store and they were all horrible and had to fight to get them to slide. Not sure what Bessey has done but I have given up on finding any good ones.

Might be worth noting, I think the Revo in certain sizes 1000mm upwards over here, can be bought in the Vario option.
This allows the fixed jaw to slide anywhere on the rail, which means when using a long clamp on a short span, you can balance just right.

I agree the Jr's can be more difficult to open.  The best way I've found is to grab the handle and lift it away from the bar in a rocking back and forth motion as I open the clamp.  While it doesn't slide as easily as the regular Revo's, I can open them easily enough that I'm not upset every time I have to.  I hope this helps you if you use the Jr's again.

I didn't know that.  I keep the Black plastic piece on the end of the bar where the hole is and it balances on that but I suspect this is still a useful feature.

It is a very useful feature, I would like to see this option in all lengths but, to be fair, it really does come into it’s own on the longer clamps  [thumbs up]

I have been buying the Revo version.   The prices at HD for the 50" ones are quite good ($45), the 24" models pretty good at $39.

I only wish they will sell the bars separately.

You can fit the Vario jaw on the fixed head Revos.  Fixed head remains attached.  The jaw runs about $20.  Search KRE-VO Variable Jaw.

Right, I know the  Revo are the fixed tail and the Revo Vario have the movable tail.  I just figured if separate bars were wanted it would be just the bar. So that both head and tail could be moved to different lengths.

I think a cheaper option is, the joiner bars.
My collection of Bessey’s, although neatly racked, take up a fair bit of wall space, so if I bought single bars if they were available, it means more racks  [doh]
