Hi guys, I need your opinion about some 10,8 V tools by Bosch and Makita.

I'm looking to add a new drill to my inventory since my DeWalt DW922 12V drill's batteries are close to dead. I was thinking of a small 10.8 V drill specifically since I found my DW a bit too bulky to carry around most of the time. Since 95% of my drilling/driving need is small stuff like holes up to 8mm and screws up to 6x70mm in wood and stone, I was wondering if a small 10.8 V drill would suffice. When the need comes for some heavier work I can fall back to my DW drill and my corded 220V drill.

I got a few specific models in mind by Bosch and Makita. Sorry, but the links are in Dutch since I've found that the model names can be different between Europa and America. At least you can tell by the pictures which models I mean.

I'm mostly thinking about the Bosch GSR 10,8 V-li-2 which comes in 2 systainers with a nice 77 part accessory set and the comparable Makita DF330DWE.

I was also wondering if the impact drivers Bosch GDR 10 V-LI and the Makita TD090DWE might do the job.

I am more inclined towards the Bosch models, Makita has never been that appealing to me, but also because there is this very nice 5 piece 10.8 V set by Bosch which just screams "Buy me" to me because of the cordless multimaster type GOP 10,8 V-Li included. With a price tag around 350 euros it's just such a good deal.

So if any of you have any experience with any of these models, please let me know. The small size appeals to me and I mainly want to know if they're good/strong enough for the small tasks I described above.

Thanks in advance.

I have the makita kit driver and impact and I LOVE it.  your prices are expensive there.  i bought the combo for $129 us.

I have a systainer fetish so the 2 sys's for another 30 E would be my bet,\

Yeah Craig, I like the set with 2 systainers too. I even know someone who offers the set 2nd hand, but unused, without the accessory kit for only 150 euro. So I am very tempted.

But how do your Makita's hold up? Do they have the power for most common drilling and driving tasks? How quickly do you empty the batteries?

I have the Bosch Driver, Drill, Impact, and I-Driver.

The drill is pretty limited in its usefulness, but comes in handy for a countersink or drilling pilot holes.  I never would have bought it, but received it as a gift.  It has come in handy several times when working on a ladder.  It fits in my tool pouch almost as well as the driver.

The driver is pretty good, but I like the Milwaukee model a little better.  The Milwaukee has a little more power, and a more refined designed - especially the chuck.   The Bosch is a little smaller and lighter though, so I keep it in my tool pouch most of the time.

I am not a big fan of the impact, but would have loved it if I was still doing electrical work.

The I-Driver is pretty neat, but I could live without it.

I have been pretty impressed with the batter life of the Bosch.  Two batteries will last a day through pretty heavy use.  While I don't have one, I also like the fact that Bosch has the Fein-clone multi-tool.

I posted about this before ..... I ABUSE my tools by most folks standards.  I run them hard so i think a 3rd battery is a good idea.  they have preformed very well to the point that if they went today i would likely go buy another set as they have been worth the price.  the drill will handle my kreg kit and a 1" spade while the impact will handle most driving issues.
