Today I purchased the edging plate, angle arm, and chip deflector for my 1010.  I haven't been getting good results using my Bosch Colt to trim edge banding on 1/2" & 3/4" plywood.  After bringing home the stuff, I started thinking whether I should start saving for the MFK700 and return the stuff I purchased today.  Or should I give it a swing and then in a few months buy the MFK700 and sell the accessories I purchased today (or even worse, just keep the stuff)?

Anyone use both the 1010 with edging plate and the MFK700.  I do know I won't be limited to 5/8" edge banding if I stick with 1010.  TIA

I have both and my first choice is the MFK. Don't get me wrong I like the 1010 and edge routing accessories but the MFK is just a bit easier to use.

Here are the pros of the 1010 with edge routing accessories.
  • Not limited to 5/8" edge banding
  • Able to rout male portion of sliding dovetails
  • Cheaper alternative to the MFK

The down side it doesn't have the 1.5 degree angle that the MFK has. However, this can be am advantage too.

MFK pros.
  • Super easy to micro adjust
  • Works brilliantly on curves
  • 1.5 degree offset on the horizontal base
  • A little easier to use overall

Cons to the MFK, it has poor visibility making it more of a one trick pony compared to the 1010.

That said the MFK is a better choice if you do a lot of edge trimming. Both are easy to use, work well and have good dust collection. I'd say stick with the 1010 and accessories for a while and see how they work out for you. Of course you could try to demo the MFK at a local dealer.

If down the road you decide to get the MFK you might want to keep the edge routing accessories for the times you'll want to edge trim 3/4" edge banding. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions.

Brice, thanks for the info.  I appreciate the info--another reason why I can't stop buying Festool.

I had both and prefer the 1010 and edging plate. The adjustability is the same and the visibility is great.

I use my 1010 and edging plate to cut the males on sliding dovetails. Its a perfect set up.
