I have several non-festool routers and all have the matching handles for both sides. this is never a problem.

I want to get a 1400 Festool routet and notice it has two different type handles..full hand grip and knob type grip.

No stores anywhere near where I live carries/sells them and therefore I am not able to try one and get the feel of how handles for a southpaw user. Any input from left handed users?
I also noticed when I went to the festool-usa website that the 1400 was not listed. Is it being discontinued?

Im a lefty and have the 1400.  The 1400 is the best router I've ever used.  Only issue I have with the 1400 and being a lefty is that my hand bumps the trigger lock button turning off the router.  I'm now just cautious when using it not to bump the but ton.  You will not be dissappinted with the 1400.  The 1400 is only available with the knob and handle combination.

T... thanks...I agree it is one of the finest routers available..The other Festool tools I own are all top notch and they work equally comfortable lefthanded. The 1400 was the one I wondered about due to the different handles.

Festool in its product development process has tried to pay attention to trying to make tools as useable by righties and lefties.  Obviously there will have to be some controls that are not placed central due to the tool and its motor.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have decided to order the 1400 and look forward to receiving it.

I think you will not be disappointed.  As for the listing issue, Festool recently updated it's website, so I guess they have yet to throw up the 1400.  I'll flag [member=57769]TylerC[/member] on this one, as that seems like a pretty big oversight.  Just for fun, though, check out what you get when you search for "OF 1400" on the Festool site (OF1400, without a space, produces zero hits):https://www.festoolusa.com/search-results-page?keyword=of 1400&category=All

[member=37411]Edward A Reno III[/member] - I'm assuming that the OF 1400 not appearing in search results is the same issue as it not appearing in the Router section. I alerted IT to it yesterday. Hopefully, it will reappear shortly.

I am pleased with the ergonomics both ways. Initially I thought I would have to get used to the different handles, but I am pleased to say that I have used both handles with both hands and no complaints.

I am a righty but switch hit often when the specific task needs me to. i see no issue. the more i think about it i hold my 1400 on the top allot of the time

I'm a lefty and I have not felt a problem. Of course so many tools/machines are designed for righties, I just don't notice any more.  I suppose when I get to 40, I will start to worry about the difference

Welcome to FOG. Another lefty here who has had no problems with the OF 1400. Hooked up to my CT with a 36 mm hose there is no dust issue. Used in combination with the LR32 it is amazing. Buy one you won't be disappointed. If you are you have 30 days to return it. Good luck.
