No, that’s not the point. I’ve done both repairs and renovations in my home. Pulling the trim is easy with the use of pry bars. If someone had glued them in place, the removal would be a project by itself. I would hang anyone by their toes if they glued moldings in place where (the correct size and length) nails would properly hold it.
We get clients that would hang us by our toes if they see plugged or filled nail holes in their lovely oak trims.
We and they, are more concerned with the durability of the fixing, than worrying about removing them.
If you really need to remove a CA glued trim from timber or MDF, it can be done very easily with a multitool and sharp blade, and it can be re used if a little care is taken.
Removing PVCu trims from PVCu windows or doors isn’t so easy but, they are cheaper and quick to replace, so no problem. Also the PVCu trims are all CA glued, never any nails or pins. So what’s the difference?
When we fit finishing trims, we glue them to the door frame/lining, and glue the mitres. Occasionally we also use grab adhesive between trim and plaster but, more often than not, the CA glue and activator is enough. The finished job is beautiful, no filling marks, or gun marks or filler. What’s not to like?
Obviously houses are built differently in the UK but, the only time we get asked to remove trims, is because the client wants them replaced?
Same with cabinets, many still use nails or pins at the joints, we rarely do unless we really have to, or a client requests it.
