Contrary to Festool's 2007 catalog, the Universal saw blade is 2.5 mm in width NOT the stated 2.2.  The blade itself shows 160x2.5x20 mm.  The newly narrowed splinter guard confirms the wider blade  :-[.  Not sure why festool couldn't standardize the blade widths so to maintain the accuracy of the splinter guards.

I don't have the 2007 catalogue, but it's shown in my 05/06 catalogue as 2.5mm, and it's marked on the blade as such. I only used that blade a couple of times, as I also found that it caught the splinterguard. It does seem a bit silly to have it slightly wider.

I agree it seems silly for Festool to have "dialed in" that blade to be a little wider kerf than others in their line.  But I am very happy with the cut quality of mine.  I am using it to cut hardwood plywood into pieces for cabinets for my garage/shop.  A little splintering at the cut edges of the outermost [birch] veneer layers, you have to look for it to notice it.  Changing splinter guards is not a big issue.  You can mark them so you can correlate each to its blade.  But having to remove and reposition or replace the rubber strip of the guide rails is annoying, time consuming and wasteful.

Dave,

Agreed; the "secondary splinterguard" is easily and cheaply reused or replaced.

I was referring to the guide rail splinterguard (rubber strip) which is
rendered ineffective with the 48t 2.2mm blade after being trimmed by the 2.5mm blade.
It's a PITA to reposition and retrim in order to get the benefits of the splinterguard
with the 48T blade.  Essentially,I have to "redo" the splinterguard whenever changing
from the 14T or 28T blade to the 48T blade.  I've only been successful adjusting the splinterguard
two or three times before the lack of adhesion necessitates a replacement.

Panther blade is also 2.5mm and really shreds the splinterguard.
