.

You might want to rethink the Titebond III.

Stever Ramsey (Woodworking for Mere Mortals) posted a video of some problems with his outdoor patio table build after using it.

Here's the video from his Mere Minutes channel. Fast forward to 1:15 and on from there. Something to consider. (No Festools involved though! He only owns one Festool item, a NAINA clock, and that's because I sent him one!! [big grin])

Cheers,

I've used TB III on many projects with many wood types and have never seen the dark "stain" on my joints. I wonder if there was an interaction between the glue and the finish he used on the table.

I'm building a bunch of Ipe outdoor benches and have already bought the Sipo tenon stock at the recommendation of my local woodworking store. I'll be using my Domino (8mm) for most of the joints. The store staff recommended TB III for the tenons and epoxy for the other glued joints. All joints will be mechanical ... either tenons or stainless steel screws. I'll probably pin the most critical tenons for extra security.

With the benches being outdoors and with people depending on them holding their weight, the cost of Sipo is worth the security.

I can't see the joint instantly failing, but expansion could cause issues over time.

i know nothing of your climate. Where I am I'd use SIPO outdoors regardless.

Do you have a way of making your own tenon stock?Maybe make them out of another type of rot resistant wood.

I would try to match the tenon to the SYP as far as shrinkage goes to minimize the joint stress.  If you have access to a wood planer, make your own tenons by milling stock and rounding the edges with your router.  Paul Marcel has a video on this on his web site (http://www.halfinchshy.com)

You might consider sending him a set of replacement batteries for that clock, it has been standing still for a while and hee made a remark about it being from Festool in a recent video. ;)
