Recently I purchased the Versaflo based on Peter's wonderful review. I am now searching for a filter that will allow me to work with varnish and lacquer, but I am not having any luck finding a place to purchase them. Does anyone know where I can find them in the US? I am looking in particular for TR3800E P. It appears to only be available in the UK? Do they make one for the US? Does anyone have any experience with the TR-300 for use besides capturing dust particles?

I don't have an answer for you, but the post intrigued me so I did go to the 3M web site to look around.  There is a confusing number of products under the Versaflo name and they did not all look compatible.  For example, I saw a round filter for volatile hydrocarbons that did not look at all like the particulate filters, and I saw at least two different form factors for particulate filters - looks like for the TR-300 and then the TR-600.  I only saw organic vapor filters for the TR-600, and it looks like you need the spark arrestor for that as well.

I don't have the setup for spraying finishes.  All of my finishes are brushed or wiped at the moment.  Given that, I order sheets of activated charcoal filter material and insert them between filters in my air cleaner when I'm doing a lot of finishing.  That seems to work pretty well for lightweight use.  In particular, I have a Jet air cleaner that takes a 2" filter.  From Home depot I get two 1" filters and sandwich the charcoal filter between them.  The first filter is a less expensive filter for the big stuff, and the second is a more expensive hydrostatic filter for finer stuff.

At any rate, if you work with low concentrations of organic vapors, you might try getting a sheet of the activated charcoal filter material, cutting it to size, and see how it works.  Just make sure you don't locate it so that it gets sucked into the fan :).

As an added note, the activated charcoal can only absorb so much, so you do have to be aware of how well it's doing and be prepared to change it when it wears out.  I've been able to get a good couple of weeks out of a sheet thus far, but it depends somewhat on how much finishing I'm doing.  I've only had a couple of time where I was doing so much that I felt like I stressed the filter.  Also, remember that the charcoal will only filter the air that actually goes through the filter, and the cleaner takes a while to filter all of the air in the room.  In other words, this is a

Just spotted this....

I have had a look at the Axminster web site and I think that they have what you want. Take a look at this link:
http://www.axminster.co.uk/3m-filters-for-versaflo-powered-air-turbo-ax839563

Now Axminster have a platinum reputation for exporting kit to anywhere in the world and I have read many glowing testimonials here on the FOG. You can shop in $US on their web site. I think when you get to the checkout they somehow capture your request and it is then processed off line by their export team - I am sorry but I have not done it and cannot give you the exact process.

You will not have to pay the European sales tax (20% for us poor Brits) and what you save should cover all or most of the shipping.

Good luck - the Versaflo is a great bit of kit.

Peter

Oops - just spotted that it may be out of stock at Axminster. Here is a link to another company who can do export:

Hi Peter,
Thanks so much for helping me find those and the video to encourage me to buy the kit. I agree it's quite fantastic and frankly a pleasure to use which means I will  [big grin].

I ordered them from Axminster and it's okay they are back ordered. I found they have a better export setup than Greenham (which is rather cryptic). Hopefully, they will arrive before too terribly long. Still interesting that they only seem to be available in the UK?

Oh, I was going to mention this on YouTube, but I will here, I had a heck of a time figuring out how to attach the ear defenders to the Versaflo M-107 face mask. They don't make that easy at all, perhaps some fodder for a future Notes video? Anyways take care and thanks for creating such useful content.
Cheers,
K.C.
