A festive gloat...ho ho ho!

I have never been a lucky man.  I have never been in the right place at the right time, and nor have I ever won anything, other than a raffle when I was about 11 (but even that involved extremely lengthy negotiations beforehand relating to my sister and I'd rather not talk about it...).  And so it is that I am savouring this delightful gloat (my first ever gloat...I have hitherto been a gloat virgin) which I can only assume comes as a gift directly from Santa.

Was watching a TS 55 ebq and Trion barrel grip combination sale on ebay yesterday. I've been after a Trion for a while and although I fancy a TS 55 I haven't been able to justify it as I already have the cordless dewalt plunge saw which does the job just fine.  So anyway, there they are, complete with two rails (800 and 1400) and their systainers, floating around the 200 british pounds mark with a day or two to go. I toyed with putting in an offer but know that these things always go for not far from their new value, even on ebay so didn't think it'd be worth it.  Instead, I email the seller and ask if he'd be interested in an offer. Yes, he says, he would. He'd apparently been offered ?200 and ?260 already.  So I make an offer of ?320 for the lot, which he accepted. Not only that, he delivered it all to me this morning. 

HAHA! YES! I GOT A BARGAIN!  [thumbs up]

Yes, I saw that too. Yep, he delivered it a few hours ago; he's working very close to my home so I assume he hasn't updated ebay yet.

Have tried them both out, and everything seems to be working as it should. Good stuff.

Well... all I can say is happy Xmas then !

Check the blade out - and if it's a little iffy, don't fret about the ?40 for a new blade they are dam good blades and they do last if treated well - don't put it through stuff that might have nails in it. Try your current blade out on some timber. If needed go and replace the cutting strip on both of your guide rails - pays, as it means splinter free cutting.

That rail/saw combination is prob. the most useful tool I have - esp. on second fix. It is so accurate it means it changes the way you work - no mucking around with sanding... Measure twice, cut once - it's done !

Sorry but I have to say he must be mad or theres something dodgy going on as he would have got a lot more for them if he had let the auction run. Well lucky for you anyway.

PS The TS55 is much, much nicer to use than the dewalt version which is now going to be used as a doorstop.  That should please John L somewhat.

Nearly a year on, scarily, and I'm just waiting for my first festool blade to be delivered for this TS 55. When I bought it it had a Dewalt (sorry, spit if it helps) blade on it which has done an ok job since, but have finally ordered the 48 tooth blade to see how much difference it makes. The Dewalt (spit again, please) blade had seen some action so am expecting choirs of angels to start singing when I make my first cut. I'll post with my feedback after I get to try the new blade.

As an update, if you're interested, I've been absolutely delighted with the Trion, which continues to work like a trojan day in day out.  I know it's not the sexiest festool out there now, but it's one of my favourites.

Found myself both smiling and sad as I reread John Lucas' posts in this thread. He was a good man.
