My observation, from the end of the last century, is that almost anyone under 40 in Swabia speaks English better than the normal person in the UK or certain parts of the USA. Sometimes, they are not confident about that ability, but sometimes, they are happy to put it on display.

I was TDY to Stuttgart for several months while active duty in the USAF and rode with the local bicycle club.  It seemed like everybody in the club was able to speak to me in English.

Great to hear chances are someone speak english. Will call a dealer im the morning to see if they have what I want.

I go to Germany about 3-4 times a year, they speak better English than I do.

The way the dollar is vs the euro now, hmmmmmmmm got me thinking

Nicht alle Deutschen werden zugeben, dass sie Englisch sprechen, aber die meisten wirklich. [wink]

Zum Wohl!

Everybody speaks dollar--have your friend go in and grab what you need from the shelf and take it to the cash register.  Even in Paris where there is more of a reputation of "snobbery", it's never failed for me.  And speaking of snobbery, it might be useful to take the time to spell their city correctly and "here" instead of "hear".
