On the news this morning, they broadcast the surveillance footage for the heist at the Louvre. The thieves used a boom truck to lift them to the second story window for entry. Once inside they used battery-powered angle grinders to cut through the acrylic display case to access the jewels.

I wonder if, once they identify the manufacturer of the grinder, if someone will use it as an endorsement: “As used in the historic Louvre Crown Jewels heist.”

But I do wonder what blade they used. If I used mine, the blade would melt the plastic and probably stall the grinder.

Over here it was reported that they used a grinder to cut through a window to gain entrance and smashed in the displays (no tool specified). So there you are: putting 'news' out as fast as possible has led to the 'media' being not very precise or truthful. Maybe we should wait for the memoirs of the thieves (or the Netflix adaptation of those) to find out what really happened…

The robber’s side was facing the surveillance camera. The tool was obscured, but definitely no arm raising to smash action. And the announcer said that an angle grinder was used (but did not specify where it was used).

I added the “battery driven” bit myself because I did not see any cord, and I could not imagine that the museum would be so kind as to provide an electric outlet.

There was a Rodney Dangerfield joke that went something like this:

I’ll tell you. I live in a rough neighborhood. I got held up.. But it's strange that the guy who attacked me had class. Yeah, he used an electric razor. Actually I blame myself. I was standing right next to an outlet store.

Note: This was in an era when electric razors were always plugged in. You can probably find the actual joke on YouTube—but this is probably pretty close. I did find a Dangerfield YouTube video, but it was like an hour long and I was not going to listen to the entire thing.
