Accepting rather than fighting weird stresses within wood (a computer model)

Very interesting. Years ago I read an article in WoodenBoat magazine about building bateaux in Louisiana with cypress knees. Instead of laminating the curve from the gunwale to the keel, they just sawed the ribs from cypress knees, using the spreading root ball to deliver the needed curve naturally.
