I'm surprised at how many bits and pieces are missing to make the system complete and how much it adds up!

But then you go to other manufacturers and they don't offer the accessories to complete their idea of what will work.

I think the thing to remember is that just because Festool make it, doesn't mean you have to buy it or even need it.

My big hobby is photography. There's a joke term called GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) where you convince yourself you need every single lens, etc for every possible eventuality. In reality of the 10 lenses that I MUST have, I'd actually use less than half of them.

Festool make fantastic tools and are a superb company, but they're also guilty of coming up with solutions to problems that don't actually exist or are over-egged and charge a premium for the "solution" to line their pockets.

Take the Festool:

* 452898 Y-piece antistatic piece, £31. That's scandalous for a piece of plastic that literally costs pennies or cents to make.

* Festool WR 140 R Stirring Rod 140mm £72. A piece of metal for stirring plaster that sans the Festool name would sell for less than £/$10.

* Festool 484733 Spark trap for dust extractor £165, a piece of pressed metal that costs virtually nothing to make.

Like I said some of what Festool makes is unbeatable, some is just the Emperors new clothes.

So Bosch doesn't have batteries, blades, vacuums, attachments. LBOX (that will also snap on to the top of their vacs) etc etc  [unsure]

Yeah, I hear ya...I was looking to get an additional hook for my WCR-1000, until I found out this simple little prong costs $59 (!).

I think it's about being sensible (as if...). Only buy it if you really need it. Ie. On a project by project need basis. Or buy it if it's going to make your business more profitable.
I think some of the accessories are a little "frilly".
But whatever floats your boat....
Btw that was an impressive list!

Festool is a system, it's about buying the things you need for what you want to do with the system.  They make things available to help you accomplish what you want to do.

Jeg this list is rather long, but I have really thought about the various items and know about GAS syndrome! The accessories don't really feel like GAS though, a tool creates Gas, or a nice handtool, but the edge protectors for the Ro 90 on the other hand are just pratical bits kit that do something useful

I have an issue with delivery times and waiting, so even though some things aren't absolutely needed, like the metal cutting/aluminum blades and the spark trap, when I do need em it's very unproductive to wait a week to get then have to stay at home to take delivery! UPS!

The spark trap interests me even though it's costly it's something that could really improve capability of the TS 75, dust extraction when cutting metals seems like a great idea..

I'll likely buy the accessories in batches focused on tool and jobs at hand..

The Depth Stop chuck for the PDC, Socket Adaptor,  the systainer toolbox , sortainers, systainer box..Fast Clamps, Clamping elements.. One of the 15V 5.2 Ah batteries , are priorities on the list.

Agreed, system! Hard to take it all in really.
Agreed, clamping elements, fast clamps, anything that ends with "tainer"
All must haves.

Yes it's a big SYSTEM, so I think being a generalist at heart, it can get a bit overwhelming as a general point of view works best with using a few flexible tools and adapting them to a wide range of jobs. With Festool we have  a system where a wide range of tools addresses specific jobs and is what has been the main motivation for what tools and accessories are developed/on offer. Economically the assumption is  a worker/business who specialises to a specific job function, becomes a mobile factory as it were and can afford the higher costs. This goes against the generalist approach, but as the tools in the SYSTEM become available to generalist (DIY) due to affluence/wants not needs, mass production,  lower cost due to competition between manufacturers, the whole specialist/generalist job classification gets blurred, the specialist is still there, but he's going to have to compete with increasingly competent generalists(DIY) who make gains on their territory, especielly if they are willing to invest in specialist tools even though they aren't going to get used very often..(accepting a lower return on tool investments)
