Just upgraded my operating system and now my old quickbooks doesn't work-- would need to upgrade, but I hated it to begin with.  Anyone have any recommendations of other software-
I'm a one guy business (carpentry and cabinetry) and I'm using it to create estimates, invoices, and to keep track of job costs.  It's gotta be Mac compatible, and ideally, USER FRIENDLY.  of course, money is a concern but I'd pay a little more for something that I won't be cursing or avoiding using...
came upon one that looked interesting, but don't know much about it:  Studiometry  with an associated app called Accounted .  they're the same price as quickbooks though ($200).  anyone heard of this...?  any help?
thanks

Rule #1
Never upgrade your OS until you make sure all your CRITICAL software is compatible !

You will only break this rule once. DAMHIKT !

Stay away from accountedge, It is a great software, it does what  advertises, but at a price.

It has payroll module, but the only the full version includes the tax tables, if you upgrade it doesn't.  The first step to activate payroll is to download the tables and update them.  That requires a support agreement for payroll with accountedge which is another $249.  If you want to have new tables, it is required to pay 249 every year to be current, unless you bought the full version (this is good only for the first tax tables, new ones require to pay 249).

If you don't want to pay for that, then you can calculate manually and change the values every time.  It is ok for a company with a few employees to pay the support of 249 a year, but in my case my company is just me it doesn't make sense to pay that amount to update the tables.

Some other extra services are extra as well, check the support forum and you will see some posting about it.  If you are ok with that the software is great and go for it.

My rate for the software is 5 stars, but for the service and support they let too much to be desired.

Corona is a simple accounting software for mac that it does a lot for less money, it doesn't look too powerful but looks are deceiving!

Here are some options, most would probably be too much for you. I use Quickbooks, but if you don't like it. Curious as to why, most guys I know hate it because they never used a professional to set it up right in the first place, so everything becomes a hassle.
If you are not doing payroll or job costing, these may be helpful.
If you just want to generate invoices, try google, they have a to of options.

If you know Quickbooks then it most likely has the smallest re-learning curve.  I use it and I agree it is a bit of love hate relationship. What I like about the 201 version is that I can invoice via email and the customers can pay by transfer from their bank account to mine. At a cost of  only $ .50. Cheaper and easier than using a CC. I too am a small shop and don't want to mess with the program but it would be less work for me to upgrade than start over.

Good luck

Cheers,
Steve

My office staff use Quickbooks for the day to day stuff. For jobs I do on the side I have been keeping track of time and expenses with the Time Master app on the iPhone. Has a handy little invoicing app that produces a invoice similar to the generic Quickbooks one.

Hey gruz,

I recently went digital and don't regret it  [scared]. Signed up for online invoicing with a service called TradeShift. Here]http://go4webapps.com/2011/09/12/5-free-ways-to-create-and-manage-invoices-online/]Here is where I found them - there are other softwares listed in case you need more to choose from.
For me functionality was important, but also price (the one I found is free) and supported languages (I have both German and English speaking customers). Also I dont want something to download since I use a Macintosh and dont want to lose everything when I upgrade.

I hope this helps
