So this is sort of meant to be funny but also somewhat serious . First hello from upstate NY im glad I found something of a support group . I started my interest in woodworking when I was about 10.  I was the kid that stayed home on Sunday's because I didn't have a lot of friends so Id spend most of my time in my grandfather metal shop “my wood shop now” or watching this old house then New Yankee Workshop then Roy Underhill every Sunday in that order . So 6 months ago I bought a festool ets 125 and I was hooked , Im now hiding my federal income tax from my wife because I couldn't help myself from buying the ts 55 track saw .. I actually am starting to feel somewhat lime an addict .. so Im turning to the forum for a kind of support group to help me justify my purchases “I also bought the “sys Extractor” last week .. although this is me t to be humorous  im actually having anxiety attacks over it

You might as well get used to that feeling...the green koolaid is more addicting than heroin to tool junkies.

Worst part was I lost my job at the woodmill / lumberyard I ran, the day my taxes came in .. and had to take a job at a big Box store “ a place I've sworn never to shop” to pay for my habit ..

Welcome Willi. You are not alone! You need a side gig so you can use the ol' "I needed it for work" excuse. Sounds so much better than "I NEEDED IT!!!"  [big grin]

Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

You do realize that FOG is pretty much the opposite of a  "support group" .  [blink]

I need support justifying my purchases .. The addiction is fine its the shame of it all . [big grin]

Iam a cabinet maker thats ventures out to do my own thing after many years of building various cabinets and furniture repair for my previous job . So there is a need , problem is my wife was raised mennonite and she makes comments how her Grand pappy never needed a lot of tools . “ I tell her ill get out the hand planes when she turns off the tv and air conditioner . “

Hi Willi, thanks for sharing.
My name is Stan, and I’m a Festool addict.
For years I bought tools, and many of them I never used.
Now that I’m retired I’ve given myself over to my addiction full time.
I used to read books, the internet...now my home page is the FOG.
It’s not just Festool.
You’ll soon find out there are other tool porn sites...TSO, Woodpeckers...then there are the YouTube videos.
Remember the Woody Allen movie where Gene Wilder falls in love with a sheep, and ends up in he gutter drinking Woolite? Yeah, kind of like that.

I love the twelve step beginning Stan ! I tend to go through addictions . It was pocket watches and cuckoo clocks last year . I have an appreciation for well made mechanical things . I git good at repairing clocks .. watches.... not so much

That's not true - we totally support the addiction...and cheer it on!
