My younger brother gave me one of these for Christmas.  I looked at it and said to myself "What is this?"  It is a Chumby.  It is really interesting and I now have the RSS feed of the FOG on it as well the Weather Channel forecast for my area.  In case you haven't heard of one before,  here is a link:  Chumby

Peter,

That is pretty cool.  Do you know what the difference between the one you have and the chumby classic is?  There is a $80 price difference.  So if I understand it right, it's a basic computer that only has internet functions right?  Does it have it's own RSS feed reader and when a new post is made a notification pops up on the screen.  I'm actually very interested in it, seems really cool.

How big is it exactly?

By the way you may want to add "Chumby" to the spell checker =).

Dave,

Here is a link showing the two models and the specs, etc.  I don't think that I would spend the extra bucks.  Having a volume knob - it is also an FM radio - at a lower price is the biggest thing to me.
Chumby Specs and Comparisons

It basically comes out of the box and is a radio and a clock.  You then connect it to your network - wired or wireless - and go to chumby.com to sign up and activate.  Then you customize.  The applications - called widgets - are free.  You set it up online and tell it what you want it to do.

The applications cycle thru.  Like I said previously, I have the weather channel widget installed.  It pulls up the local current conditions, pauses, shows the three day forecast, pauses, shows the current radar images.  Then it goes to the RSS feed.  The feed will show the last five posts of the forum.  If a post is longer than can be displayed on the little screen, then it will automatically scroll.  Then off to the next one.  Then it goes to the current date and time.

You can browse thru the widgets available.  Programming is also an option.  My other brother wrote and application for a game for our niece on Christmas.

Hope that helps.

Peter
