My shop is 30'x30'x10' with a variety of things that generate a lot of wood dust.  Even though all my stationary and hand power tools are attached to dust collection systems, a fine layer of dust accumulates in non-trafficed areas over time - in the corners, on top of things that don't get accessed often, under tables, behind stationary tools, etc. Disturbing one of these areas invariably generates fine, air born dust - probably of the most unhealthy kind.  To address this problem I once donned my Trend Air Pro (full face shield and respirator), opened the doors and stacked 3 box fans in one of them (to generate cross air flow), fired up my compressor, and blew all that sitting, sleeping dust into air born dust.  WHAT A DISASTER !  This shi# storm of dust resettled as a fine layer over everything.  The "flow through" sirocco was totally ineffective.
  That was last year.  Now those sleepy corners have again acquired a dust layer booby trap awaiting the next minor disturbance. Has one developed an approach to addressing this problem ?
 
I recently bought a Build Clean 360 air cleaner for jobsite air cleaning, but it works great in my garage as well.

I put a brush head on the vac and suck the stuff up when I feel there's enough residual dust lying about.
 
I have an Oneida Dust Deputy on a CT-36 extractor with a Tradesman cleaning set in my workshop. The bags I use in the DD cost very little, just a few pence each. With this lot there's no reason to have a dusty workshop anymore as this lot makes a great vacuum cleaner.

Anyone thinking of buying a 36mm hose should consider the Tradesman set as it works out slightly more expensive than the hose by itself and you get stainless steel tubes and a full set of attachments all in a SYS-5. The basic cleaning set with its very bendy plastic tubes is poor by comparison to this kit.
 
Indoors, dust settles everywhere. Houswives have been battling this problem since the 50's with a vacuum cleaner and a damp cloth.
 
I have a Stihl leaf blower and large garage doors at either end of my garage.  I open both doors and blow in the direction the wind is blowing through the shop/garage. Works great, but i have to make sure small items are "nailed" down.
 
I use the Felder AF500 in my workshop which only cost €209 exc.VAT.
Works well and has a timer and 3 levels of suction: 480, 600 en 720 (m³/h).
Catches 98% dust of 5 micron and 85% dust of 1 micron.
Has an infra-red remote and can also be taken to jobsites.
Same model as another FOG member [member=13459]dolph[/member] uses.

I agree with you, your system works real well.

I use an electric blower and every time that the wind is blowing strongly from the right direction the leaf blower leaves the workshop dustless and sawdust free in less than a minute. (I live on a farm so there are no near neighbours to complain about the dust cloud)

I agree with you, your system works real well.

As for the Untidy Shop, I vacuum and obviously this is long over due!  [eek]

Thanks for that tip! That was a decent price from a wellknown brand. Refreshing my small workshop now, and will even put in a small desk, because the workshop is in a quiet part of the house (got small kids:). With the Felder AF 500 I could probably have quite decent air in there:)

I was coincidentally looking at those Karcher window vacs last weekend .. tempted.
 
Guess openings in two ends of the garage might not be the norm, and that solution doesn´t apply to most?:)

Sort of 2 subjects here. One is to clean up the woodshop, and the other to keep the air cleaner to avoid breathing in the fine dust. And for myself, I´m leaning towards getting all that fine dust out of there before it even settles.

When that is said, I´m also thinking about having doors on cabinets with small tools and screws and that kind of things. Just to avoid to cleanup were it will be more difficult.
 
Useful tip [member=7673]neeleman[/member] ! Ordered the Felder AF500 yesterday. Current price at the Felder eShop is € 209,– excluding VAT. Incl+s+h: € 270,07. Seems fair enough.

Question: how do you use it? Standing/hanging in a stationary position, or?
 
You're right about that.
It's sold as a Felder but in fact alas a rebranded PRC model.
I use it on a shelf but it can be hung from the ceiling as well.
At 16 kg you must be sure about the bolts in the ceiling.
