All about the Blades

Hi all,

I have a questiion for those of you guys who own TS75 and KAPEX Saws. Can you please compare the geometry ( tooth pattern) of the standard issue blades (if available for Kapex please include Multipurpose Blade to) for me. I am aware that TS75 blade is 210mm and KAPEX is 260mm in diameter and both have 30mm bore hole, so that opportunity to make fun of the question is out of the window. Effaces there is a difference in the quantity of teeth to.

My reason for asking is, that I have purchased an Electra Beckum (Blue Metabo) KGS 255 Compound Mitre saw of my very good friend as stop gap until I can afford to buy KAPEX. The blade sizes are same as those found in the TS75 Plunge Saw and I wondered If it is possible to use it in the mitre saw as both TS and Mitre saws pretty much perform same operation of Plunge and Slide, so for that reason I believe it would be ok to use it in the mitre saw. But before I go ahead and place my order, I would like to be certain that it would be ok.

Thanks for mentioning, I didn't know that.

Checked the Festool website, and Kapex blades have a -5 degree angle while those of the TS saws mostly have a positive angle. Except one special blade for aluminium, which has a -5 degree angle too.

So the answer to EV's question would be no, I take it?

The reasoning is simple . If you image the ' attack angle ' of the blade . With a circular saw the blade has a positive rake so it cuts from below and the angle that the blade ' hits' the material pulls the saw tight to its base therefore making a safe and stable cut with little chance of kickback . with a chopsaw if you used a positive rake blade it. would tend to pull into down into the material and increase the risk of kickback . A negative rake blade won't. 'dig in '  so reduces the risk of kickback , not a nice thing to happen

What brand of blade would you or anyone else recommend for the Mitre Saw that would be on a par with Festool. Trend have a good selection but then for some unknown (well they are overpriced in comparison to Wealden Tool Company) reason I have not been their biggest fan.

Another consideration is what you are cutting with regards to amount of teeth and configuration of said teeth on your blade.

I tend to gut Glasing beading of various sizes, Plywood, Veneered and standard MDF. Current blade I have installed is Trend Craft Pro 48 tooth which is fine but not fine enough I think 50-60 teeth would be ideal and something rougher for cutting structural timber, OSB/Ply and chipboard.

Hmm... so is the TS75 aluminum blade compatible with the Kapex?  I was just researching a blade to cut some aluminum extrusions.
