Angle Arm & Edging Plate Not 90 Degrees to Router Base

I have the Angle Arm (486052) & Edging Plate (486058) and when I put them on my OF1010 or my OF1400, the edging plate is not 90 degrees to either of the router base bottoms.  I thought maybe it was supposed to be like this, since the MFK700 trim router has a base that puts the cutter at a 1.5 degree angle, but the angle on my setup is actually in the opposite direction.  Can anybody else the has these items tell me if there’s is the same way?  I haven’t used it to trim anything yet, but if there’s something defective, then I’d want to exchange them.  If everyone’s else’s is the same way, then I just want to make sure this isn’t going to be a problem when I do go to use it.  Thanks for any help in advance.

From your picture you have the plate right next to the router base. Try to move it away just a bit. Looks to me that the attachment is not fully sit seating (thank you Jeff) on the router.

Also, in your picture you do not have the router weight on the assembly. That might change it to 90° as well..

I hope that's not the cause, as that would mean the plate can move relative to the router - that's probably even worse than being solidly fixed, but out of square.

I agree with Mario...I think you have it too close and the arm that attaches to the router is not seating correctly. Slide it out a little, lock it and re-check for square.

yup- too close

problem causer is circled:

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, but I tried moving the edging plate out and it’s still at about the same angle.  I tried moving it halfway out, all the way out, and I tried a couple different squares I have as well.  Any other suggestions?  Can anyone that has these same accessories confirm that there’s is at 90 degrees or not?

This picture is with it all the way out.  Again, basically the same angle.

I tried holding it only by the edging plate handle so the weight of the router was on there and checked it with a square, and it’s still at the same angle.  I wasn’t able to take a picture as well since I don’t have three hands haha, but it definitely didn’t change the angle and neither did extending the edging plate farther out from the router base.

I was using the 1010 downstairs so I decided to check mine. First photo is in the short position and the 2nd photo is in the extended position.

Well the iPhone photos are too large to load.  [mad] [mad]  I’ll have to send them to the computer, reduce the size in computer and then try again.  [mad] [mad]

Suffice to say, I also had what appears to be a 1/32” gap between the Starrett square and the edging plate.

I thought it was purposely designed to be at a slight angle for cutting edge banding... could be mistaken/crazy on that one though.

Yeah, I had to reduce my photos but my iPhone gave me the option to do it right from the phone.  I’d definitely be curious to see the photos if you don’t mind, just to be able to compare.  Thanks for taking the time to check yours and photograph it!

I thought that might be it at first also, but the angle is the opposite of the angle on the Festool Trim Router base that comes with a 1.5 degree angle for trimming edge banding.  Unless I’m mistaken, the trim router base would slope down, whereas this edge plate would have an up slope.  Sorry if that’s a terrible description of it haha.

When trying to upload, see far down on your iPhone’s screen when you have chosen a photo from your phone’s library: (beware, it’s “hidden Land Rover ad in there.. [big grin])
There (in Norwegian..) you will have to click “Choose picture size”, you will then get 3 choices, small, medium, large and actual size, then click “back” and you’ll see a smaller file size (if not clicking “actual size)

Yep, that looks the same as mine.  I’m assuming this hasn’t ever caused you a problem then, right?  I’m guessing it at least wasn’t noticeable in the actual finished project.

I just checked mine.  On my (nearly antique) OF-1000 and my (2 month old) OF-1400 the Edging Plate is dead square to the router base plate.

The attachment arm is a fairly tight fit into the router base...do you have it fully seated in there? Any built-up sawdust or crud in there that might keep it from seating?

Thanks for the heads-up but the screen you show just doesn't show up on my iPhone. I also went into "Settings" and tried to find the option there...no luck. I have an iPhone 11 Pro...is that the problem?

Love the Land Rovers, I just wish they were still made in the UK.  [smile]

Do you guys have the locking knob tightened down?

Absolutely, because the fit of the arm in the slot, on my 1010 router, is a very light press fit so the knob needs to be tightened completely for the arm to seat fully in the slot.
