Just realized Festool does not make an Angle Grinder that is available in the U.S.

Wondering if any of you guys have managed to adapt any Angle Grinders w/ dust shrouds to the Festool dust removal systems??

Sure would be nice.

I have tried the "Duct Mussel"
https://www.braxton-bragg.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/store7catalog.level/bc/0,9458/

When it stays on it did not seem to be working too well... But when it came off I realised that it was doing a great job.
They are not over engineered for longevity.

The problem is that one needs a proper shield - so this is interesting to me.
If they have a NAINA model, it is one tool I would probably consider, as nothing spits out dust like an angle grinder with a turbo cup on it.

Some people use the Festool 570789 RAS 115.04 E Rotary Sander like an angle grinder. I have seen it used to scribe toe kick pretty quickly, I guess it depends what you need it to do for your specific job ... and it is readily available in NA

https://www.festoolproducts.com/Festool-570789-RAS-115-04-E-Rotary-Sander-p/570789.htm

The RAS 115.04 E rotary sander is more or less a grinder with a sanding pad. It has a hunger for removing thick layers of either paint, varnish or removing significant amounts of material, even carving for the most adventurous. Get creative and try your hand at shaping with this very powerful tool. Like an off road truck, the RAS utilizes low speed and a high torque motor.

    Auxiliary handle for easy control
MMC electronics ensure a soft start, stepless variable speed control and constant speed under load (especially while shaping)
Dust extraction for cleaner air, higher quality finishes and long lasting pads and abrasives

Includes

    (1) 8 StickFix Abrasive Discs
    (1) Dust Extraction Hood with Brush
    (1) Extra Side Handle
    (1) StickFix Sanding Pad 4-1/2” diameter, soft
    (1) Wrench
    (1) T-Loc Systainer 2

They are similar, but I doubt one can put a turbo cup onto a sander, nor a steel grinding or cut off wheel onto a sander.

On my big Dewalt angle grinder I have a Dewalt accessory that is very similar to the "Dust Muzzle" linked above. I use it for Concrete grinding to keep the dust down. It works pretty decent compared to not using it! I have admittedly only used it on a Ridgid vac with the Dust bag and Hepa (kinda, hahaha) filter. Though I don't see why it couldn't be adapted to the Festool Extractor. I'm sure that would do a better job filtering the vacuum exhaust.

Does a dust deputy grab any concrete dust?

I have a makita variable speed 9337 (I think) and the smaller unit is 125-mm and goes flat out.
The small one takes the turbo cup and billows like a coal power locomotive.
The dust is super fine and is dense.

What is your dewalt model?

The Ras 115 can be used as a grinder, you need to get the metal brushes for it and the spark trap for your Dust collector if you are using it for metal.

I don't know how the Deputy would do with the dust. I would imagine most of it would pass right through.  I just used the dust bags you can buy for the vac for drywall etc. They actually work pretty well to be honest.

The Dewalt grinder is a 7" DW840K and the Dust shield is a DWE46170
I had to grind some on the slab in part of my house and the dust wasn't awful. But I wouldn't go at it indoors without a zip wall up etc. It's still going to put some dust in the air.

You'll need to get a different shroud/tool for different grinding operations. Surface grinding, tuck pointing, and plunge cutting will have their own, different shrouds.

I think all the Festool stuff is NAINA, but Metabo has the market well covered.

edit: looks like Bosch refreshed their surface grinder as well.

You could...it probably would take you a while though.

The RAS is 500 watts, which is about what you get from a Harbor Freight 4-amp grinder. ;) You'd definitely want more juice.

I have been using this for about 8-9  years now. I had it made for a Bosch and after the switch went out i put it on a Makita.  I grind concrete (Dimond blade)  and Subfloors (Diablo flap disc) with it in occupied houses. Never a problem with it. It works best with a Rigid Shop Vac with a Clean Stream filter.  My Ct36 AC has trouble keeping up with it and i resorted back to the Rigid for concrete applications.

[size=13pt]The dust hood that comes with this Festool Grinder, -

-  can be purchased separately in Aust and I assume Europe/UK.

It appears to have an adjustable coller, so it may fit your grinder, then again it might not! It is for 125mm models. Just a suggestion for those NA Foggers who are interested to investigate further with European and UK friends.
