I was wondering if anyone could recommend an angle grinder for me.  I need it to be 4.5" and have an harbor nut of 5/8".  I am going to be using  it with wood carving burrs so there will be quite a bit of fine dust that it will have to withstand.  I am not looking to spend a ton but around $100 or so and more if there is one that you just think is outstanding and will last like festool products do.  I don't really like to replace things so I am wondering, if in that price range, a grinder will last a while.

thanks for the help I have never purchased a grinder so I am in the black as opposed to black and green where I am very comfortable. ;)

Do you need a variable speed model?  That is pretty hard to come by.

I use a 7' Porter Cable VS Polisher, which also has a 5/8" arbor, for stripping paint, wirebrushing, etc. I would think that may be more what you are looking for, as most 4 1/2" angle grinders are single speed and turn at 9,000 to 10,000 RPM.

I bought a 2-pack of Bosch 4 1/2" grinders at HD a few months ago, and so far they are great.  I am usually pretty careful with my tools, but for some reason I treat hammer-drills, Sawzalls, and angle grinders like rented mules.  They take a beating.  I have had a few over the years, and the only one that I was disappointed with was a DeWalt.

My dad, who uses his more often and as abusively as I do, has a Makita "Industrial" model that is probably about 25 years old.  It still works great.

I have beat the snot out of my Milwaukee grinders for years..............never had any problems.

They've been run so long & got so hot I had to put welding gloves on.......tough tools.

good deal JJ

I make my living as a Tile setter and have 2 dc 500's  and a DCG500 that I use with diamond cup wheels, and they are WORK horses.  Hilti makes a product much like Festool in that to most everyone who doesn't use them thinks they are way over priced but to those off us who do..... nothing else even comes close.

thanks Craig
