Anybody had a chance to purchase or check out the new Kapex 2019 model.

Looking for feedback. Any issues noted like the casting and fence alignment reported on the earlier model.

Not looking dredge up the motor issue. I've read all of the posts and am well aware.

Got one. Actually bought it because of the 100 EUR cash back. I’m  In the midst of rebuilding my house, but didn’t need it yet.

I will check the alignment in the coming weeks. Only thing I  am not crazy about is the angle gauge.

A) it now sits behind the machine under the engine, a bit of fiddly if you ask me to take it out and place it back.

B) the angle gauge is extremely hard to push out (the aluminum rods I mean). This might be just mine, not sure. Not nitpicking, but trying to push them open with your thumb, leaves you with a cut (its that tough to slide them out)

I’m not going to use it a lot  (angle finder) I think, so no big deal. But TBT for this price it should be perfect.

For those mobile, I couldn’t find a easy way to carry/lift it. Not sure if the old version had a easier way of doing so. Maybe I missed it?

I bought the latest model 120 REB back in April, and it’s been used extensively since. From sitting in the workshop for lengthy periods cutting all kinds of timber, from small trim right up to the large heavy stuff. It’s also seen plenty of site use, again from trimming, to cutting roof joists, trusses and stud work.

It got a fair bit of attention when on site earlier on being a new model but, I’ve seen quite a few now on various sites.
When I first bought it, I didn’t like the sound of the motor but, many Festool motors sound a bit odd to me, so I didn’t worry about it, and have got used to it now.
Also the vertical designed handle/grip seemed a little awkward initially but, again I got used to it.
The base now has built in extensions which do come in handy at times but, it means the angle finder is now stored at the rear of the base, instead if the side. Not a big deal but, the angle finder can come loose in transport. Mine was rattling around in the box when delivered. Not really a problem once you’re aware of this.

Mine is the UG set, and I have found the cart and extensions to be a godsend. I can set up, and pack away in no time at all, and despite reading on here that the extensions are flimsy or wobbly, I have found the complete opposite. They are sturdy, take long and heavy pieces of timber, and when the measure rules are calibrated, they are extremely accurate, and using the stops to measure is so quick.

My saw out of the box was cutting plumb and square, and the lasers were spot on but, not quite to how I like them, but they adjusted quickly and easily.
The table angle adjustments and locking are rock solid, probably the best of any saw I’ve ever used, and I’ve used a good few.
I absolutely love the bevel adjustment, and locking. The saw was obviously designed with ease of use, and precision in mind, something the Germans excel at.
Dust extraction, at first seemed to be not as good as I’d heard with a CTM and 27mm hose. I then hooked it up to a short 36mm hose, and adjusted my technique to a recommendation from other owners. This made a big difference, and since, when in the workshop it’s often connected to the main extractor, and there’s hardly any dust at all.

So far, my experiences with this saw have been positive, and I like it a lot. I have other nice mitre saws which although costing a lot less, are also very nice but, the Kapex is now my favourite, it just has those extra touches not found on other saws.

Yes, it is expensive but, that is soon forgiven once you start using it.
I would recommend this saw to anybody, from a hobbyist or DIY fan, to a carpenter joiner, general builders, right up to precision cabinet makers and woodworkers. It will cope with anything and everything.

Quite possibly the king of mitre saws.  [thumbs up]  [wink]

Have to agree  with [member=69479]Jiggy Joiner[/member] it probably is the king of mitre saws out there at moment. Mine is about a year older than the current one.

However there are some thing I don’t like. I do not like the mitre selection lever (quite difficult to set at angles near the preset detent, for example  1 degree, when you just want to back cut slightly. The clear pointer with it’s green lines is simply difficult to see. Other saws are much easier but the bevel adjustment is simply clear and superb.

Another is the trenching facility that is heat to set and use but simply does not have enough range.

I was hoping the new version overcame these negatives and maybe a little more motor power and increased rpm speed.

I have the new model, centre piece in the UG cart/extension set up. Predominantly site use and I don't treat it with kid gloves, if it is going to fail, I'd definitely rather it happen under warranty, but it's not missed a beat so far. The casting is excellent all round. As for alignment, the saw is still set up is as it came from the box (bar an adjustment on the laser to suit my preference) and I've had no issues with cuts, joints and finish, it's cut is superb. Essentially, I can really only echo and second @jiggy_joiners comments above and would happily recommend it anyone.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I had a 2015 model that I purchased used. It had seen some pretty heavy use but it served me well. I recently sold it so I could purchase one of the new models.

I purchased the new 2019 Kapex 120 a few days ago. I live in Melbourne, Australia.

I have never used a Festool drop saw before this, only drooled at them. In short it's amazing. The blade is silky smooth, hardly any splintering at all, actually none. I am currently installing rough sawn Cypress pine, shiplap fascia, eaves and it's a joy to use. The lasers were not calibrated out of the box, left side about 1.5mm off and right side about 1mm off. Love the sound, LOVE the bevel action from the front. Light weight for what it is (just wish they had a carry handle). I will probably never use the 120 depth cut feature however, but you never know.

I bought the Kapex for my main all round saw and I intend to put it to work. The only thing that pisses me off is without dust extraction, the sawdust spews out from the top, covering the entire saw with every single cut. I literally use my cordless blower after every cut or else the mitre readings cannot be seen. Will be investing in a vac very soon.

All in all a brilliant piece of kit!

This isn't a fair remark. The dust extraction performance is one of the TOP reasons why the Kapex beats many other brands. It is like complaining a new car not doing well at night after you removed every headlight bulb.

But do use the larger diameter hose (36mm?) with your shop vac after you get one.

I have heard the 36mm hose is the go. Will be going down that road eventually. Probably going to buy a CTM 26 and a long life bag. Have you had any experience with these type of bags? Are they worth it?

Anyway, off to set up the Kapex for the day!

The regular 36mm hose didn’t make a visible improvement in my Kapex dust collection, but the short 36mm hose did.

Short meaning what?

I think the best answer to that is, as short as you can go, without compromising the full use or movement of the saw when in use.
I made one up at 1.5 mtrs which was fine but, because of the position of one of my extractor points, and where the saw is often used in the workshop, I was able to use a shorter hose at 1.2 mtrs.

So, get the saw as close to an extraction point as possible, or if using a Festool extractor, move it as close to the saw as possible, even raising it on a stand to cut the distance further. Then put the saw through all of it’s range of mitres, bevels and slides, allow a little slack, then cut the hose allowing for the cuffs, and away you go.

I have a 1mtr length of hose, I think that could also work. The shorter the better really.

Just an update of my 2019 Kapex 120. After two weeks my blade has started to wobble on start up. I tried multiple blades to see if it was the blade itself however it seems to be the arbor. I returned the Kapex back to Sydney Tools where they will send back to Festool for inspection. Pretty disappointed really after spending the money, doesn't really give me much confidence going ahead.

Thank you for the update. I hope this is an anomaly. I'm sitting on the fence a bit longer before purchasing my next miter saw.

Hopefully it's nothing major but will keep the updates coming.
