Anyone use pearl or flake in finish?

I'm building a desk for my daughter and it's ready for paint.  She wants it to be white (think pottery barn-ish).  While in my paint drawer I ran across my airbrush supplies and it occurred to me that I could add a small amount of flake in the clear to give it some additional character or stencil in an object (like a ghosted heart).  She's 10 so I'm certain she'd love either.

Anyone play with flake or pearl in their projects?  How did it turn out?  I'm thinking of adding a pinch to one of the KA+ clear coats.
 
When I shot cars back in the day, did a lot of flakes, candy, dust and pearls.

If you're going to shoot flakes, remove any filters from the pick up.

For the heart you could shape a toilet paper or paper towel tube. Place the gun head set at the regular fan in the tube, back the material way down, quick tigger pull. Give the paint a few seconds to settle, lift tube. Each tube will present a different affect due to gun distance.

I've heard a lot of good things about Modern Masters products, but have never attempted anything like what you're talking about.

Good tip on the filter.  Would have ended up wondering what the gun wasn't working and had to work through it the hard way.

Neat trick with the tube.  I'll try it this weekend when I have paint in the gun.  Sounds much easier that what I'd planned on trying with stencils and fast.
