Anyone used the Fastfix depth-stop control chuck?

I've been thinking of getting one, except I'm not sure if it works that much better than the cheap dimplers.

get a dedicated drill for this job so the bit stops spining when at the correct depth

That's a good description of how this chuck works. It essentially makes your Festool drill into a screw gun, which makes it 5 drills in one if you have the right angle and eccentric chucks already.

It's good for drywall, especially if you're just patching. I think if you're hanging a whole bunch of drywall, you might want to get a dedicated screw gun but you certainly wouldn't have to. I've used it hanging a lot of drywall before. I admit that I'm not a screw gun expert so maybe an expert would go faster with a dedicated screw gun.

It's also good for any task where you want all the screws to be set at the same depth, like a deck.

You can also back screws out with it without having to change the depth setting.

I have used mine quite a bit for hanging drywall, and it is well designed.  The biggest advantage over other adjustable dimplers, at least the ones I have used, it that the depth setting on the Festool really works constantly.  The Festool is also a lot more durable.  If you just have a couple of boards to hang on occasion, it is great.

If you are a little patient - I'm planning a review of the DD-DC drywall chuck.  In a few days I'll get to it.

Here's my review of the depth stop chuck (on a C12) with pics: http://www.talkfestool.com/vb/festool-drill-reviews/26-c12-depth-stop-chuck-review.html    I think it's great for hanging a few boards.  The shape makes it work very well for consistently driving screws, even one-handed.   OTOH...

If you are hanging a lot, a dedicated drywall screw gun would be better.   The key issue is speed - the C12's rpms are a bit slow for this kind of work.

Dan.

Sorry.   Forrest fixed it.  It works now.  (Thanks Forrest.)

One of the idiosyncrasies of the forum software is that, when it parses a URL, it adds the period to the URL address instead of ignoring it.   I tend to put links at the end of a sentence and then close with space and then a period.  Sometimes I forget the space.  That's when the fun happen.  [crying]
