Will be doing a whole house remodel shortly. I have decided to use IKEA boxes for the cabinets, but don't like any of the door styles, so......  I will use appleply with a walnut face for the doors/drawers, but I am on the fence as to wether I should have them factory finished. Has anyone worked with finished panels from states industries?? How are touch ups, as I would need to finish all the exposed edges.

Or, will festools new surfix finishing system work for that application?  For those that have used it, would you be comfortable with one of the oil finishes in a kitchen setting??

Thanks
Dan

I'd be concerned with long-term stability (warpage)  of appleply. I've seen plenty of 10+ year old cabinets with warped appleply/europly doors.
All our high end shops use mdf core for doors.

You could use a thin oil finish (like Watco) or have them lacquered after milling.  The problem with factory finishing is avoiding scratches while you do the milling.

If you want to save yourself some labor,  there is also a company that makes doors/panels for Ikea boxes with sequence matched veneers in any species you want. Semihandmade
