Are the blue sparks/flash normal on HK55 EB

As the title says really, brand new HK55 EB 240v (UK). Used it for first time today and seemed like a heck of an electronic type smell came from it as well as some pretty good blue sparking/flashing from motor area when using it on full RPM. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this.

Is this normal for this type of saw with the electronic break? Is the smell just running the motor in or something?

Many thanks.

Keep an eye on it.  Perhaps it is the brushes working themselves in.  If it continues then contact Festool.

As Peter Halle says, keep an eye on it.

You may also run the saw with no load on the lowest speed setting for a few minutes - this will settle the brushes.
It is/was a common technique to run in a new brushes and commutator on brushed motors to gain highest possible performance. Done with no load and lowest possible speed.

Thanks for the replies, I’ll see how it goes, hopefully just a run in period.

I’ll give the low RPM run in technique a go tomorrow.

I think this is done at the plant.. my Kapex was clearly run prior to packaging.
But, it could also be a brush or missed test run - who knows which motors that does run more than a short test run.

I would keep an eye on it - but my guess is the brushes are just seating themselves - it might take several hours for this to dissipate. Had the same thing happen on my HK and TS55 and now they are both normal.

Thank you, that’s more reassuring you’ve had similar with the same tools.
