Unfortunately, we don't have hardwoods here in southern Colorado, and the pine beetles have killed a lot of our pine trees.  On the bright side, the damage wrought by the beetles makes for some beautiful coloring of the dead pine trees.

I saw this fern stand in an Arts and Crafts projects book, but I didn't want to build it out of oak.  Instead, I chose "beetle-kill pine" for the base.  This wood is inexpensive and plentiful from a local sawmill.  For a touch of elegance and to impress friends and family, I selected purpleheart for the top.  I like the contrast.

The joinery is compliments of Domino.  The Rotex came in handy to correct a couple of alignment issues.  That must be the fault of the Domino; it couldn't possibly be operator error.  Dimensions are 26"Hx14"Wx12"D.  Finish is Deft Danish Oil clear.

My God! If that dog is a hundred pounds, the table must be like, eight feet tall!  ;D

nice work ;)

Beautiful table.  I have my own beetle kill working here in the Black Forest, unfortunately. I'm looking forward to milling some of it.

BTW, my very first dog (a hundred years ago or so) was a Boston Terrier -- I was very fond of that dog.  Didn't weigh a hundred pounds, but he was eight feet tall in a lot of ways to me.  :)

Munch,

That wood is nice. i like the table. How bout some details on the build.
