I am repurposing a kreg stand into an assembly cart.  I am probably going to try and make an MFT top for it, but my real question is method of attaching the MDF top to the stand. 2 options below.

1) drill a through hole in the MDF, with a counter bore to have bolt head even or slightly below top.  I will then use a nut and washer.

2) similar method, but put a tee nut in the bottom of the top then screw bolt into tee nut.  Will a tee nut in MDF be a problem?

Right now I am leaning towards option 1.

Thanks.

I'm not sure about a T nut, but you can use an Insert.  That's how the MFT attaches to the frame.
An insert is machine threaded on the inside and coarse wood screw theaded on the outside.  Usually brass and screw in using a hex key.

That is the first time i've tried to insert a link.  I hope it works.  This an example of one.

Thanks for the suggestions, I found a dozen 1/4 x 20 bolts and am going to go with method 1.

I have another question.  I went to Home Depot this afternoon to get a 2x4 piece of MDF.  While looking at the cull cart, they had a 23x48 piece of melamine for $2.01, so the $10 difference made the decision easy.  So I am going to use this as the top.  So for my questions:

1) do you tape the cut line when working with melamine?

2) if I decide to use the lr32 to make the MFT top, will I experience a lot of chip out of the melamine?  I have the 20mm Festool bit.  Or should I tape this as well, and put a piece underneath?

Melamine is SUPER chippy as you've suggested.  Even with spinter guards I would tape it.  especially where i'm drilling both sides like you said.

Thanks.  When I drill the mounting holes, I think taping is a good extra step.

If i do use the LR32, will taping the whole sheet affect using the guide rail and mounting plate?  Maybe I will do a test with and without tape on the off cut to see if tape will be needed.  I mean it is shop furniture but I still want it to look decent.

I figured this will be a good way to practice edge banding as well, if I can find my iron.

seems like you'd just need a strip down the line of holes.  you can always clamp the rail if it's to slippery
