ATF55 EB doesn't turn off -worth fixing?

Does anyone else have any experience with the trigger on an ATF 55 EB failing to an "on" position.  In other words, as soon as the saw is turned on, the blade starts spinning.  I'm guessing something has failed in the brake circuitry or the switch, either way replacement is over $120Au.  Anybody have any experience in fixing a similar fault?

I fix a lot of broken Festools and I think that it's always worth it, as long as the tool in question isn't a total wreck. You won't find a new saw for 120 aus dollars, so if the other parts of the saw are in good condition, I'd go for that option. But you have to judge the overal state of the saw and see if you can identify any other parts that might fail in the near future. If another part goes next month that will costs you another 100 then it's suddenly not worth it to fix it anymore.

The fix itself is very easy and will be done in less than 10 minutes, just unscrew the handle cover and replace the brake/trigger module.

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about the problems with your ATF's trigger. It's always important for safety reasons that all components of a tool be kept in proper working condition. For that reason, it's important that you not only repair the tool, but refrain from using it until it's fixed.

I'm sure the folks at Festool Australia will take good care of you.

The obvious first guess is the power trigger. However, from a couple things you said, I would investigate if the control module could have failed. In addition to not turning off, does the saw have a problem with speed control? Even if it has some speed control but runs faster than normal, that would be an indication that one of the power transistors has failed. Furthermore, if unplugging the saw and plugging it back in causes it to reset into the off position, then it is for certain the control module.
