Shawn,

Do you know if the prices in Canada will drop!
The Can $ is at par with the American, but we still pay around 30% more adding to that that our taxes are higher, at least in Ontario.
I will be spending 2000$ on new Festools soon, it doesn't make any sense to buy from Ontario dealer.

Hi Monder,

It is uncertain as to when or if there will be a price drop for Canadians in the near future.  Keep in mind buying from a local dealer has many advantages, such as service/relationship and Canadian warranty/exchange/30 day ease.  With the ease of the 30 day exchange/refund guarantee and the TS promo that is going on right now, I think it is worth while for Canadians to buy in Canada.

Also something to consider is the exchange always needs a buffer of at least 5% or so for Festool (risk purposes).  On top of that there is Economies of Scale to consider.  It costs Festool about 10-20% more to do business in Canada than it does to do business in Buffalo NY.  Servicing Canadian dealers with sales support, shipping/brokerage into Canada, having a service center in Canada dedicated to our small population.  These are just some of the expenses they have that increase the cost of them to do business in Canada.

One other point I will make (and one of my customers, bought a saw in the states when he was there on vacation, and had a huge issue with a damaged rail, had to ship back twice, got hammered with brokerage) is if you have an issue with any of your products you buy in the US such as, damaged rails, pieces missing when you get back to Toronto, motor breaking or warranty issue (although this is rare).

With all these factors to consider it certainly tends to be worth the extra 20%  If you are considering spending $1500 on festool, is it worth the $300 to go to the states and compromise all this? I hope this helps justify your purchase within Canada.
Please come to the store if you have not already and look at our lovely new setup...
Thanks
Shawn
