This is not a 'build', it's just a simple jig, and my video editing is even more primitive than the jig so no wise cracks. :-)

But a couple years ago I made this jig because I needed a bunch of wedges or shims, whichever you prefer. I wanted them 3-1/2 inches wide by 3/8 thick. So I made this jig and used up some scrap framing lumber and made all the shims I could ever want for free. You can use it to cut any width shim/wedge you want up to the capacity of your saw, but 3-1/2" seems about wide enough for anything. It works well turning the 2x on the face and cutting through the thickness to make 1-1/2" wide shims.

Shouldn't need much explanation, I think you can pick up everything from the video I made today. I don't have any build photos or video because I made it a couple years ago and just drug it out again yesterday to cut a few more 1-1/2" shims. But if you have questions please ask.

Great idea Bob, simple and very effective. I cut some recently on site, with a table saw but, your idea and jig is a much better and a safer option  [thumbs up]

I would hazard a guess and say most won't have a bandsaw on site but the table saw shim jig that Ron Paulk made works well for that.

But what I do is when I'm picking up scrap in the shop I'll grab any pieces of 2x4 or 2x6 and chop them to 6 inches on the miter saw and then run them through my bandsaw jig and replenish my supply of shims. When I leave the shop and feel I might need some shims I only have to grab a handful from my shim bucket and away I go. :-)

Another good method, especially when mobile. I normally use my band saw but, only have use of it in the workshop, so on site, I normally use a table saw, plunge saw, or circular saw. Again that method looks better and safer.

That's pretty funny Bob...you went all out and added a handle. While I produced the Fred Flintstone version.  [tongue]

LOL, I had no doubt that a jig of this type had been made before,
but I don't recall seeing one in person or on the WWW.

I like yours with the multiple angles [member=44099]Cheese[/member]
