This is Barney.  Barney is a westie.

He is my mom's dog, and I inherited him when she passed a year ago.  He is a good dog, and protects the house from thunder and firecrackers (and other dogs).  Since he has a doggie door into the back yard, I know he spends a lot of time back there rolling in the grass and just chilling in general.  So, I am going to build him a doghouse.

Today, I went to a guy who's going out of business shop and he gave me a bunch of wood.  I think I can use it for the project.  Anyone got any project plans?  I kinda like the doghouse in that commercial about some insurance company in which he keeps his valuables inside his dog house to protect them from the cat burglar.

I will keep you posted...

Here is a link to a website that gives you some ideas on dimensions http://tidewaterkc.org/projects/insulated_dog_house.htm  I builded an insulated dog house for my boxer a while back. Added a small sliding window in front so they can look out in the winter and have added ventilation in the summer. The roof hinges up for easy cleaning and added ventilation in the summer.

If you make it big enough with cable TV a mini bar you can join him for the days you are in the dog house also [big grin]

Is that a West Highland Terrier ?  They are more used to cold Scottish weather, hows he handling the heat  ;D

Barney keeps his hair short... really short.  He doesn't like long, long walks.  Loves to chase squirrels and lizards.  Keeps the house protected from thunder, firecrackers and other dogs.

I think he does well.  Many westies here.

one thing about dog houses is that they should be scaled to the dog's size so that he / she can be comfortable.  I would insulate the dog house with a sheet type foam product, and in the roof area would insulate with a foil faced product with the foil on the face pointing outward.  Reflect the Florida heat.
