Best method for cleaning ROTEX 90 prior to polishing

I have used my RO-90 for sanding and since i do not have another ROTEX sander in my garage, i need some advice:

I need to use my RO-90 to do some polishing and have the polishing pad accessory, I have not taken it out of the box yet, in fact I do not even know where it is hidden.  But I do recall being warned about dust in the machine prior to polishing.

So what is the best way to remove the sawdust build up from teh Ro-90?

Compressed air?

Compressed air would be my thought. Maybe air, vac  , and brush just to be sure. Especially in the area  where the pad mounts, I usually find  quite a abit of dust  when I take a pad off.

Vacuum first - no point in making a big mess.

Personally I believe in running the vac over tools before they Return to the Systainer.

Cleaning with compressed air can dry out bearings, etc if you go crazy - so by all means break out the compressor, but apply a bit of common sense with the nozzle.

Thanks, for some reason I had completely forgotten about the vacuum option!!

Found the polishing pad and the interface pad, will be able to get to work later today.

Why would you use these together?

i didn't get the interface pad, so i know why  [tongue] the polish ends up getting on the pad, making it messy.
If you always use your rotex with a vac then dust should be no problem while polishing, i do occasionally blow out my tools with compressed air, but that tends to un-settle the dust so for a short while your sander will actually be blowing out all that loose dust, so make sure you spin it for a while and run the vac hose hose all over it after blowing it out.

Tim this doesn't make sense to me. The polishing pad is a very hard low profile pad designed to polish flat surfaces. If you put on an interface pad you may as well use the included soft pad.

Don't forget to use rotex mode when polishing, not random orbit.

Out of curiosity how big is the surface you are working on with the 90?

Well the surface size will be big, but I plan to take my time, but I do not have a bigger ROTEX, I have Random orbital ETS 125 but i do not think that is the one I should use.

It cleaned up well, and will start later this week
