I just became the proud owner of the OF 1010 EQ router [STRIKE THAT! Stupid me typed 1010 and meant 1400!] and the first project I want to use it for is to create two mortises in 18' long 4 x 6 beams. What would be the best way of performing this? I'll be using a 1/4" straight bit and only making a 1/4" deep mortise.
I thought maybe I should buy the edge guide to do this, (and even if I decide on a different method I know the edge guide will get plenty of use).
Of course the the 495246 Plexiglas Template would be great but beyond being waaaaaay too expensive it would not accommodate the thick stock I'm using.
Then I started thinking maybe I should build version of that, a saddle type jig that I could mount the router to and slide along the top of the beam….
Thoughts or advice?
