I made this from 18mm birch ply with a young lad I had for a weeks work experience. I only had two sheets of 18mm ply so made it from that.
Both ends were kerfd on the panel saw. There must be 100 or more kerfs on each end. I cut the curfs 15mm deep to allow the ply to bend around the front and back frame. The front and back frame as well as the infill pieces were rebeated with the of 1010 so that you would no see 18mm of ply on the ends.
I then sprayed the entire unit with 6 coats of clear laquer.
To cover up the kerfs I applied white Formica. In order to spray the contact adhesive I hade to mask the entire unit to protect the finish for the contact adhesive and once ready I applied the Formica
