Hi everyone,
I have lurked here for a while, and avoided registering so as to not exacerbate my mild addiction.
Currently I have a TS55 track saw and a jig saw, both of which I love. I'm kicking myself for not buying a dust extractor sooner, and that will likely be my next purchase, and then after that... well the list is long.
You might be wondering why someone who owns (and adores) a TS55 wants to borrow someone's track saw. Good question, you are very perceptive. The situation is this:
I live in Chicago, and I will be traveling to Los Angeles (actually Culver City) to visit family. My sister just passed away unexpectedly, so I'm going to be with family and support my brother in law as best I can.
As it happens my sister arranged for my 11 year old niece to get a bunk bed, and had some kind of scheme to figure out a permanent ladder solution for it, but she left us before those plans were really sorted out. Right now my niece is using a 6' step ladder to get in and out, which works reasonably well, but I think you could understand why I might want to make their home life a little more ordinary at the moment.
So, my plan is to make a bookshelf / staircase out of 3/4" plywood, Kreg jig it together and slap a coat of paint on it for her. I will probably also screw it to the wall for earthquake and general kid shenanigans.
I am going to check the Kreg jig in my suitcase, and a recent Christmas gift to the kids were some basic hand tools, so I think I have a couple of clamps, square, tape measure, etc. So what I need is a way to cut the plywood down to size, and of course my first choice is a track saw.
I will be in town from Sunday October 25th through Wednesday Nov 4th and would love to either borrow a track saw, or bring over some plywood to break down.
I have gotten quite a bit of good advice reading other people's threads here, so I'm looking forward to being more active now that I'm actually registered.

P.S. - you guys will tell my wife that I absolutely NEED a dust extractor, right?
