Bowed wood shelving repair

I have a couple shelves all with butt joints made of walnut which will need to be repaired due to bowed wood. The bowed portion is in the middle of either the top or bottom board. Each shelf is made of 7/8 thickness solid walnut.

My question is has anyone tried cutting the problem board out and replacing it with a new straight board with dominos?

The idea would be to leave the two good sides and the other straight board intact. The only issue I see with this method is not being able to get the new board placed back in-between the sides with the dominos now inserted. One possible fix to this would be to shorten each domino on the receiving end but possibly increase their total number for more strength?

Anyhow, I will most likely make new shelves to match the existing ones but thought that coming up with a fix might be a good exercise. Any further suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks
