Hi guys,

Does anyone know if the BSTA depth stop countersink can be adjusted to drill a 10mm deep hole without the countersink coming into play? I'm thinking the 5mm if that makes any difference.

Cheers

yes, it does. If you are using this for shelf pin holes you may want to use the 492525 Centrotec Self-Centering Bit 5mm

Replacement bits for the BSTA are £9 for 5. For the ZB they're £15 for one  [eek]

I understand, but make sure you are getting the right bit for your purposes. The standard bit in the BSTA is a twist bit which is not the best for getting chip free shelf pin holes. You can probably substitute a brad point bit in the BSTA but I have not tried. If you are drilling 5mm holes in plywood or melamine, the brad point bit is a better choice. The ZB allows you to use a home made or custom template for holes and is very fast to use. I like the Festool brad point bits they do not have spurs but more of a chisel on the outer edge of the twist and I think this gives a very clean hole quickly, but I am sure there are other manufacturers who make a comparable bit.
I believe that the brad point bit in the ZB is designed to make cleaner holes in melamine/chipboard than the standard Festool brad point bit which is chamfered outside edge of the tip.
Lee Valley also sells a self centering bit that you could put a brad point bit in.

Hope this helps.

I use mine to drill 10mm deep in compact lam all the time. As for replacement drill bit I just cut standard bit down to length. I've even used solid tungsten carbide bit in it which last better but snap easier
