building cabinets

Can anyone recommend a article or book on building cabinets. I picked up a small side job and part of it includes 5 wall mount cabinets, nothing fancy. The owner requested sold plywood, and maple veneer.

Timelife series "the art of woodworking" i believe there are 25 books, i don't know what anybody else thinks about them but i find these to be a mine of information even though they are not in metric.
Theres one about kitchens, i think you need that one.

I really like the books written by the late Danny Proulx and have made a few cabinets based upon plans in his books.  For the job you have in mind, I suggest looking at the three books:

- Buiilding Cabinet Doors and Drawers

- Building Frameless Kitchen Cabinets

- The Pocket Hole Drilling Jig Project Book

They are carried by both Lee Valley and Amazon.

A big +1 on Proulx.  Haven't read Schmidt's book.  Own Rae's book, not impressed, just my $0.02.  Some like chocolate, some vanilla.

+1 on both.  I also found Illustrated Cabinetmaking by Bill Hylton to be quite helpful and illustrative.

The above books are all helpful but I've found over time that I turn to Robert Lang's book, "The Complete Kitchen Cabinetmaker" more and more.

How are you guys joining your cases? I was going to Rabbit everything, and join it with glue and nails. I was thinking about useing A1 3/4 plywood. Mounting them with cleats, using venear edgebanding, to cover the core. Also I was going to just use a sheet of plywood for the face with edgebanding, no frame at all. What do you guys think do you think it would be a quailty product. Do you think there would be any movement? I've been a carpenter for the last decade, just never had a opportunity to build cabinets. Also I was going to use the surfix oil kit for the the finish, probally the one step?

But then he doesn't get to buy a new toy. Unless of course he wants to use Dominos for the joinery and has to purchase one.

(by the way, maple pre finished is the way to go on your first attempt)

You can get prefinished plywood in any sheen you want.

Another option is to just screw the boxes together.

Look no further for books. "Building Traditional Kitchen Cabinets" by Jim Tolpin was my bible for building mine.  I accumulated over 100 woodworking books over time and gave every single book away when I was done  This was the only one I kept.  Its a great reference I continually go back to time and time again.
