Has anybody looked into making bunkbeds for a source of income?

I am just curious  because I am looking to earn some extra money to supplement my income.

Thanks,

Keith

There's a company locally that started out 35 years ago as "The Loft Bed Store" doing just that.  They're now known as Hardwood Artisans and have moved well beyond just bunk beds.  They were started by two guys with an idea and a small selection of hand tools, and now they have quite a manufacturing facility.

I've seen ads in various woodworking mag's looking for people to make bunkbeds.  As an insurance safety professional, PLEASE do yourself a big favor and make sure that you have adequate liability insurance that will protect your personal assets, not if, but when someone sues you for a faulty product design or construction methods.

Haven't found anyone that will pay me enough to build one offs...since they are often purchased for children and are outgrown, customers don't want to spend the money on what is usually viewed as a temporary solution. The demand and price seem to be satisfied by the mass producers and the DIY parents.
Houzz has some nice ones but it looks like they are usually built in by the contractor as part of a renovation.
I designed a knock down one using construction grade timber, a sort of industrial bunk bed look, but the finishing (splinters, sanding etc.) costs made it difficult to price below mass produced items and make enough money for the investment in time.
