HI guys

I really like my TS55.

I have discovered it is burning wood when cutting for the first time.  (19mm ply).

Ay suggestions as to how I can stop it?  I have variable speed but this doesn't seem to make much difference.

The blade protrudes through the wood by approx 1/8th of an inch.

Any help appreciated!  Sorry if its something obvious, i'm a beginner

Russ, you may have a toe issue. No not your feet, the saw is should be toed in, meaning the saw blade isn't perfectly straight to the guide rail. The sawblade should be slightly closer to at its leading edge (toe in). Call Festool's service department and they can tell you how to adjust the correctly, it's fairly easy.

Do you have any slop in the fit of the sawbase and the rail? I'd check that first and adjust it if you do.

cheers matey

I will check tomorrow, its a bit late here to be making noise for the neighbours sake.

From what I remember there is no slop and its only on this ply I'm burning.  On MDF and thinner ply I didn't notice it burning.  YOu can feel the heat coming out the exhaust port  :o

I do love this damn thing tho, the guiderail is fantastic!

You're going to love it a whole lot more after you follow Brice's advice. It's an amazing tool and when adjusted will not burn any ply. The MDF was just too soft to cause the problem.

Brice,

Do you and anyone else know how to check to make sure it's adjusted properly before he makes the call?  Also, does anyone know how to adjust it without talking to someone at festool?

There have been a few posts on FOG over the years on how to adjust the alignment of the blade - have a look at Dave Ronyak's suggestion in Feb 2007 to start you off.

Well, I'd first check that the blade is sharp, it good working order (not bent or damaged) and that your using the correct blade. I've also seen people install blades backward by mistake, they do not usually cut as well that way. I

f your still have problems you can check if the saw is toed correctly by seeing if the leading edge of the blade is closer to the guide rail's splinterguard by about the thickness of a light weight business card. There's bolts that hold the saw body to the base you can adjust these to toe the saw correctly. I'd strongly recommend that anyone first call Festool support before trying to adjust any of their tools.
