Got an email the other day from Boards and Beams, which is one of my favorite lumber places in the New York area, announcing a sale running through early march of buy one get one free on live edge slabs.

They're not kidding, as I went there yesterday and saw they have put their entire slab stock on sale (which is substantial, including maple, hickory, oak, walnut, poplar and other species), and will be adding more as the current stock moves out.  I ended up getting two 84x30 bookmatched spalted maple slabs, each priced at $800, but with the sale it will just be $800 for both.

They have a huge selection right now, and they are willing to hold onto sold pieces for a week or so while you sort out transportation/pickup.

Love spalted maple....❤️ ❤️  I'd like to make a bench from some.

Is the slab actually 30" wide?  How thick?

A photo...🙏

I'll post some photos of the two when I pick them up next week.  They are a little under 2" thick.

Man, you had me going for a minute there, as I am

Edward -

Looks like an upcoming Shaper Origin project might be in mind!

BTW, you might get some tips from John Malecki's video on slabs.  Former NFL lineman with a studio in Pittsburgh who's turned pro craftsman.  John does a lot of cool builds - wood and metal.  Also, he's really responsive to questions if you connect with him on Twitter, FB, etc.

Indeed.  Thanks Neil.

Picked them up today. The tape measure reads 57.5" btw

Nice stuff Edward... [cool]

Any thoughts on how you’re going to stabilize the cracks?

Not yet, but I'm sure I'll be soliciting lots of suggestions in a few months!

That board on the right is going to require more than just a few bowties, as the crack goes all the way through the board near the bottom.
